The year Harley-Davidson was 90 years old. Seriously, WTF, Renee?
Fuck: it's 1993. So we're back to two '90s sets a week? (actually THREE in the last 7 days, if you count Friday's '93 classic)
"Cannonball" a completely LN TOTHK, IMHO.
-
TOTHK The Breeders "Cannonball"
last played March 6th
-
Van Morrison/John Lee Hooker "Gloria"
last played October 16th
-
Cracker "Euro-Trash Girl"
last played January 24th (reaired July 5th)
-
Van the Man/John Lee Hooker (?). Sorry, these '90s blues duets (there's one in every set, it seems) do nothing for me.
Oy: Cracker.
-
BOS1 Cracker
(is it the LOOONG version?)
-
BOS1 Cracker
(is it the LOOONG version?)
some might say it's the FUCKING ENDLESS version. And I like this song but it's made one too many appearances for me.

This was song #2 in last Friday's classic '93, too. So glad their continuity folks are on the job... :P
-
Seems long. I love Cracker but this song is a bit of a snooze.
Got a tattoo in Berlin
(and a case of the crabs).
A rose and a dagger
on the palm of my hand.
And I'll search the world over
for my angel in black.
Yeah, I'll search the world over
for a Eurotrash Girl.

Arthur Ashe death into William Orbit "Water From A Vine Leaf"
-
William Orbit "Water From A Vine Leaf"
I'm not a big fan of this sorta stuff.
Considering Renee said there would be "ROCK!" this is pretty damn snoozy so far.
-
I'm digging Orbit. But the beat was so overused in the early 90's. Enigma, etc.
Ah, and Big Head Todd next. This was a good album despite what some of you think of the band as a whole.
-
Big Head Todd & The Monsters "Broken Hearted Savior"
-
You'll have to give me a schmaltz pass. Just went to my 20 year reunion, so a 1993 set is kind of apropos.
-
Big Head Todd next. This was a good album despite what some of you think of the band as a whole.
and I'm one of those. I call them Big Bore Todd and the Snoozesters. ;) I always thought they didn't get enuf criticism for an awful band name because Hootie & the Blowfish were around at the same time
-
John Hiatt "Perfectly Good Guitar"
last played January 24th (reaired July 5th)
-
and Hiatt makes his obligatory '90s-set appearance. This song was on my "Best of '93" mixtape but now I kinda never need to hear it again.
-
Ugh, "Perfectly Good Guitar" is way more boring than Big Head Todd. This is a by-the-numbers chord progression and lyrics that are hilariously unoffensive.
"Hey there, uh sir, um, please don't smash that guitar or I will report you to the constable"
-
2 70s and 2 90s this week. Interesting.
BOS1 Orbit/Orton. BOS2 Hiatt.
-

the "roulette wheel" needs servicing, methinks.
-
"Pets" -- we heard this recently too, no?
-
John Hiatt "Perfectly Good Guitar"
last played January 24th
Which was the set used for last Friday's classic. Bad form, people.
-
Porno For Pyros "Pets"
last played May 2nd
-
PJ, "EWBTCIAST". More snooziness.
-
Pearl Jam "Elderly Woman..."
last played December 26th
-
Instant WOS Pearl Jam.
-
VHM U2, just 'cause we usually only hear "Zooropa" to close out KFOG A-to-Z.
-
U2 "Zooropa"
-
Instant WOS Pearl Jam.
Thank you. I never will understand the veneration for them. Not to mention the army of Vedder clones their success unleashed.

Right there with you. I have several friends whose musical preferences I otherwise respect, save for their unquestioning adulation of PJ.
-
VHM Gilbert Grape.
-
What's Eating Gilbert Grape? into Smashing Pumpkins "Cherub Rock"
-
Ugh, "Elderly Woman" from Pearl Jam. As I say on every set that this album comes up on, there are some excellent songs from it like Rearviewmirror, Animal, and Dissident. None of them make it to 10@10.
Zooropa gets a nod for at least being different. In retrospect, I think U2 was shooting for what Radiohead later did with OK Computer but they didn't have the intelligence to pull it off. So disappointing after Achtung Baby.
Cherub Rock gets a BOS, though again, I'd choose another song from this album (just not "Today")
-
Renee was "headbanging"? There has to be actual hard rock playing for that, no?
That was pretty awful all around.
-
BOS: William Orbit and Smashing Pumpkins
HM: U2 and Big Head Todd
Caveat: rose colored hindsight glasses fully engaged
-
Renee: BOS Big Head Todd; VHM Breeders and Smashing Pumpkins
-

Listened to this set last night, and snark at me if you choose, but I found it extremely enjoyable, in spite of the fact it was our second trip to 93 in less than a week, and going to 94 just on Tuesday.
Apart from “Cannonball”, none of these were top 40 hits (and that only on the airplay charts).
Good/Necessary:
1. A/D
2. C/B
3. A/B
4. B/B+

This, along with Nirvana's Heart-Shaped Box, was the first request I made for 10@10. Played three years later.
