Here's your Kooker, in the #2 hole. Live With Me, damn fine Stones rocker. I'm sure there is much swooning happening now from asst'd members of the FB clan. Deservedly, in this case.

Boz Scaggs "Loan Me A Dime"

Redemption for yesterday's fest of mediocrity.
Boz, Duane and the Muscle Shoals rhythm section, trying to bum a dime. Stellar.

Boz Scaggs "Loan Me A Dime"
a quintessential 10@10 "Deep Track" from the earliest days. Somebody knows their history.

Indeed. So good. Is Steve Miller playing on this one?
ETA: Never mind. I guess I had my associations reversed...

That should quell any bitching about short songs.

Crappy day to have a 10 am client meeting that just ended.
BOS Led Zep, but only because it's the only one I've heard so far. Catching up on posts show that all of 'em are excellent.
Never tire of Loan Me A Dime.

given the prog-FM vibe, King Crimson might be a possibilty

I dig this one. Dave used to play this a lot, but I haven't heard it since then, methinks. Love the jerky time signature weirdnesses.

I swear he's consulting on these from his beach chalet in MI, sending in the setlists and letting Renee and the engineer du jour do the assemblage. (OK, maybe that's a bit much to expect. ;) )

What did she say about another good band name? "Bubble Brother"? "Puppy Brother"? I didn't catch it.

not worth catching. Renee is not good at off-the-cuff ad libs.
7/2/2013 - 1969
1. 49 Bye Byes-CSN
2. Live With Me- Rolling Stones
3. Loan Me a Dime- Boz Scaggs

4. Reasons for Waiting - Jethro Tull
5. Barabajagal - Donovan
6. Ballad of John & Yoko - The Beatles
(Christ making the list ain't easy)
7. Babe I'm Gonna Leave You- Led Zeppelin
8. Look out Cleveland - The Band

10. Hot Smoke and Sassafrass - Bubble Puppy

It was dumb, whatever it was.
Boz et al got BOS, but she was shocked that the Beatles got no Best o' set votes from the fogheads. Could be an indication of how good some of the other songs were, or it might be that TBOJAY is not a particularly strong Beatles song.

I'd vote for both of those factors. It's funny, cause I was thinking of knee-jerk BOSing the Beatles (yay), but then I thought, no, this song really isn't very good, and is mainly notable for predictable overreaction by zealots thinking John is back on his bigger than Jesus kick again.

Yeah, "Puppy Brother". It's a reference to a commercial in the series where the guy is talking to 4 kids and one of them goes off on some random kid thing. In this one, the girl wants to turn her brother into a puppy so that she can take him to show and tell and say he is her puppy brother.
Both Renee and I watch too much television.
:P

Although, Steve Miller did show up in a guest spot for Boz Scaggs' historic Paramount Theatre concert back when it reopened. It was also on KSAN, so there are copies around.

It's funny, I feel like I've heard this a lot lately, but it's such a stand out tune, I still enjoy it, as it reminds me of different live performances.

BOS2 that Peace Corps PSA --> BOS3 Tull, "Reasons for waiting" Nice.
It was nice to hear the PSA on the replay. I just got back from Boston, where my wife attended a Returned Peace Corps Volunteers national convention. I'm very impressed with these people, and definitely honor their service. In most cases, they got very little in return from our government. Even though many were teachers, most states don't even count their two years as service years towards retirement status. One thing we did that was quite interesting was that my wife and I (she served in Zaïre) went out to an African restaurant for dinner Saturday night, and spent some time after dinner looking at the villages they lived in on Google Earth. Definitely a bizarre experience!

The problem with that is The Court of the Crimson King is something of a FF. 21st Century
Schizoid Man is a bit frenetic and would be an awkward fit, while the lovely I Talk to the
Wind is on the snoozy side.
AL had started to play some of their '80s tracks like Elephant Talk and Frame by Frame
-- both of which took BOS when they appeared. Another band on the "would love to hear more
of on 10@10" list.

Never tire of Loan Me A Dime.
Glad Rod got to hear this. Zep is not my favorite band, but their first album was truly special, and this is kind of the quintessential light/heavy track. So much more than just a lot of headbanging.

I think it's a good song, but it's very much a FF, and possibly LN as well. At any rate, it gets a
lot of play, and I think the many other strong songs in today's set that aren't heard as often
simply caught people's attention.
The other Beatles alternatives would come from Abbey Road, and just about everything on
that album gets a lot of play as well. 1969 is one of the best years with loads of overlooked
material, and evergreens like the Beatles get overplayed.

Well, it did appear in a '69 set from February 22nd, along with Your Saving Grace.

10. Hot Smoke and Sassafrass - Bubble Puppy
For some reason, I was curious about this group, and surfed a bit. Stumbled across this:
"We came home after playing the song, and we needed some words," recalls Fore. "We were watching The Beverly Hillbillies. Granny was berating Jethro for something, and she goes, 'Hot smoke and sassafras, Jethro, can't you do anything right?' That's where it came from."
So, the Beverly Hillbillies clip was connected!

A hot set on a hot day... and a long one too. About 52 minutes.
Today's bust-out was The Band's Look Out Cleveland.
While I think that 1971 is the best year ever, it holds that distinction by the slightest of
margins. In my opinion, 1969, 1970, and 1971 create a lofty plateau that is the height
of the pop/rock genre.

Just as a data point, what year did you graduate from high school?

Not that this was directed at me, but I would agree with him, and I graduated in 1977.

My views on the arc of pop/rock music and which years are "good" and "bad" developed largely
after listening to 10@10 for a few years and taking note of the distribution of 10@10 sets I was
moved to record. Prior to that I didn't think of music very much in terms of the year of its release
(or charting), but rather when I discovered it -- in other words, as the soundtrack of my life. Much
of the music I like I did not hear for the first time until after the year of its release; in some cases,
many years after.
