"the year Brooke told us 'nothing comes between me & my Calvins'"
Which was '80 but we're getting '79. Whatevs.

Renee's flying down to Mexico tomorrow for a wedding -- are we getting Renee "classics" for thebrest of the week?
-
TOTHK - Gary Numan "Cars" - 1979

the brest of the week -- are you referencing her bra anecdote? ;)
I think she'll be live tomorrow and a classic on Friday.
TOTHLN: Gary Numan -- one of 1980's uber-least-necessary.

I like it. Haven't heard it in a while. And besides, the Stanford Band used it in a field show referring to John DeLorean and we made the wheels turn and snort up a line of cocaine. So there.
-
OK this is completely ridiculous. The Brooke Shields Calvin Klein spots premiered in late 1980; "Cars" was a hit in 1980. Honestly -- this is not brain surgery.

Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb"

Typo, but totally appropriate!

Meh. While CN is a fine song, it's not terribly necessary to hear it here again. Maybe the could break out something less obvious from a double lp. Maybe, I don't know, "Mother"?
-
The Cars "Let's Go"
-
The Knack "My Sharona"
-
The Cars "Let's Go"
from "Cars" to the Cars. And now uber-uber-uber-LN "Sharona". Good gawd.

The PF was released in the fall of 79, and Sharona is def a 79 tune, but yeah, I am hearing a whole lot of what I remember from 1980 in this set.
"Ten at Ten: 10 great songs from two great years...or maybe three!"
-
VHM, "My Sharona", which, necessary or not, is hitting a sweet spot right now. I need that.
-
"Warriors come out to play", yo.
uber-LN "In the City"
-
Eagles "In The City"
-
closest to a BOS, certainly: disco Kinks.
-
The Kinks "(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman"
-
another painfully unnecessary classic: Supertramp.
-
Supertramp "Take The Long Way Home"
-

LN yes, but at least it's not The Logical Song.
-
VHM TV themes medley, one from the Morey archives methinks.
-
good lord: all this and the Buggles too.

VHM TV themes medley, one from the Morey archives methinks.
I was thinking the same thing, but to my ear the WKRP theme was a remake, not the original. Would Dave have done that?
-
TV themes medley into The Buggles "Video Killed The Radio Star"
A lot of the themes used were from years that weren't 79, and, yes, that WKRP was not the original version.
Next up: Little River Band " Lonesome Loser"
-
"Warriors come out to play", yo.
uber-LN "In the City"
uber-WOS, never necessary.

there are two versions: the actual TV version and then the full-length single that was released. And I think DC is too lazy to have put together a lengthy medly like that. ;)
proxy of Gaz, LRB "Lonesome Loser"
-
Bad Company "Rock and Roll Fantasy"
-
here come the jesterLNs. My rock'n'roll fantasy does not involve Renee, that's fer sure.
-
"most certainly in 1979 today" says Renee.
Well, much of it was.
BOS, "My Sharona", only because I enjoyed hearing it the most.

Per Renee: BOS The Knack; VHM Pink Floyd

And it was interesting that RR responded to GTS.
Is GlimmerTwin somebody we know? Ratzsy, come out of hiding!

FP has denied being GTS, even tho' Broooce and the Stones are his bread'n'butter. I'm not sure at this point. Clearly the "your 10@10s aren't nearly as good as AL's" comparisons area sore point for Renee.
-
The Kinks "(Wish I Could Fly Like) Superman"
Ugh. The Kinks on their way down. I don't care for much of anything they did after the mid-'70s.
-
Supertramp "Take The Long Way Home"
BOS from me. I could really relate to it then. For me it evokes the rootlessness I was
feeling in the late '70s. I would drive around aimlessly, with no destination, and literally
take the long way home just to avoid the feeling of having nothing to do.

Does anyone else wish they would just cancel the f***ing show?

GTS only has 12 FB friends, 11 of which are mine as well, with the other being the significant other of one of those 11. I'm guessing we know him/her.

No, absolutely not.
Joke it may be at this point, it is the best opportunity for community commentary (while "Connected" is generally better in terms of music/not having its host with their head up their ass, the timing/length just doesn't lend itself to the same opportunities).

I agree. That's pretty much the only reason I listen to it at this point, and even then, I can't bring myself to listen every day anymore. But I'm hoping this is just a rough patch and 10@10 will be back to form sometime, and I think there's a better chance of that if they don't cancel it completely.

I understand the sentiment. Sometimes you just want to put it out of its misery, rather than
continue to witness its continued existence as a pale shadow of former greatness.
Still, that seems extreme to me, and would severely limit any possibility for improvement.
"This too shall pass." I remain hopeful that it will be better on some future day.
In the meantime, there are constructive responses. One can use the time previously spent
listening to the replay for other activities. It can be an opportunity to hone one's creative
writing ability to bitch in new and entertaining ways about how bad the show is. And CapnJack
has been demonstrating another great way to deal with the situation.
