Title: 20 Mar 2013: it's... 1982
Post by: RGMike on March 20, 2013, 07:56:04 AM
Thought I heard a  promo saying something about the Saturn (the car) which debuted in '85 -- this would be the 2nd '85 set in less than a month, but then it's DC's sweet-spot, year-wise.

ETA: 1982

Hmmm... Clue: year Sony introduced the CD player... 1982?

Renee appears to be confused (shocker, I know). The CD player she named in the teaser I heard (Sony CDP-101) came out in 82, as CJ cited, and Mike was right that the Saturn debuted in '85. So maybe '83? '84?  Guess we will find out at 10:04.

which is only marginally from '82 (Thriller a very late-year release; the single peaked in '83).  VHM, but a pretty obvious choice from this LP.

The only single from that album that would make the 1982 cut would have been the lead off single "The Girl Is Mine".

ETA: She could have chosen one of the two album cuts that weren't singles: "Baby Be Mine" or "The Lady In My Life" (but how likely would that happen?)

Agreed on all of the above (save for the katrina-ness of Senses Working Overtime).   Points to DC/RR for programming anything from Nebraska. That said, it's yet another Springsteen tune -- and I can hear the screams of glee for the Bruce tune emanating from the GS board, even all the way up here.

Another BOS. I really thought I didn't like what was on the radio in 82, but there certainly was some good stuff. By now I've (almost) forgotten about that execrable "Flock of Seagulls" song.

Maybe so, but this song has some awesome bass work in it. It seems like it had an extended intro, maybe just a couple extra bars. Did I imagine that?

ETA: This has got to be an alternate version with that sax solo, eh?

Oy: one of the uber-uber-LNs of all time.

This was a perfectly enjoyable set, tho' a bustout would've been most welcome. It was like one of AL's NewWave-centric '80s sets, but without the rarities.

TANC: Listening via my headphones today, and I was struck by the same thing: that bassist (one Taylor or the other) is really going to town on this one. And yes, this does seem to be an extended edit.

On the other hand: not M@W again!!! I'll be chundering now...

It's been a while since I stopped by but I was able to hear today's set. Not bad, but boy is Renee dead. No enthusiasm at all. I don't get it -- wouldn't this show be a DJ's dream job? Edit: but props to her for the Tylenol/Halloween news -> "I Want Candy" transition. Need more like that!

As for the music, lots of frequent flyers. BOS Space Age Love Song (especially for not being "I Ran"). Man, look at that hair!

actually (and this is the 2nd time it's happened) she appears to be quoting the Wiki page for "Rio": radio programmers paid closer attention to the catchy melody and insistent, intricate bass line

John Taylor is the Brian May of Duran Duran
(If you say Queen sucks, someone invariably says "But Brian May is such an awesome guitar player" or "Brian May has such great tone.")
