it *should* be a '60s day, as we haven't hit that decade in 2 weeks. But "should" doesn't always work these days.
and apparently we're headed to '75.

Ambrosia "Holdin' on to Yesterday"
Nap time!
-
Duuuuuuuuude! BOS Kiss, "RnRAN" a fine TOTHK.
I believe this studio version is less-played than the KISS Alive! version, but that's based on my gut, not a spreadsheet or anything like that because, you know, that's for nerds.
-
is there an echo in here?

as a card-carrying nerd I can tell you you're right. It was the live version that became a Top 40 hit.

Pink Floyd "Welcome to the Machine" - seems I'm like a few seconds behind in posting, heh.
-
The sweet sound of Christine McVie "Over My Head"
Question: Is this one of the first songs to feature a lighter sound for the Mac?
-
BOS2 the Pinko Floyds.
-

Question: Is this one of the first songs to feature a lighter sound for the Mac?
no, not at all.
-
BOS Pink Floyd.
It's funny how we get a lot of Floyd in the 80's, and less from the classic '70s albums.
-
The sweet sound of Christine McVie "Over My Head"
Question: Is this one of the first songs to feature a lighter sound for the Mac?
well, this was the first LP with Buckingham & Nicks, so... yes. (you gotta see the docu Sound City, seriously. It's great)

well I gues that depends on your definition of "lighter". Guess I was interpreting the question as more commercial.

That was no slip, sir.
I wonder if the 8.7% unemployment rate quoted in the recession news clip was the actual rate, or like today's, where you have to double what's called the headline number to get to what's called the real unemployment rate.

Please visit Future Games and Bare Trees for lots of lighter sounding tracks, quite beautiful.
-
nice memories of the gala premiere of Tommy at the Paramount Theatre
-
BOS2, Time Warp (again)
-
Rocky Horror Picture Show "Time Warp"
-
We've heard the Jaws trailer more often than some songs.
VHM Shampoo.
BOS3 "Time Warp".
-
I had to walk out on Tommy in the theaters because it was freaking me out -- I was seven.
Time Warp; shoot, I thought we were going to get EJ's Pinball Wizard.
-
Boogie w/Stu
LZ
-
Led Zeppelin "Boogie With Stu"
-
BOS 3, LZ, natch.
hey hey hey hey honey
ETA: this is my kind of set! :D
-
BOS4 Zep. This is turning out surprisingly good.
Boogie with Disco Stu!

-
Led Zeppelin "Boogie With Stu"
Oh yeah, Physical Graffiti side 4
-
BOS4 Zep. This is turning out surprisingly good.
Agreed! All we need now is some Journey (when they were good) or some Jeff Beck.
-
Boogie w/Stu
LZ
Do you have the whole week off, or just Monday?
-
BOS 3, LZ, natch.
hey hey hey hey honey
ETA: this is my kind of set! :D
Yes, but very Morey-esque. Not that there's anything wrong with that. :)
-
Steely Dan "Bad Sneakers"
-
BOS5 the Dan of Steel, bad sneakers and a pina colada my friend..
-
Boogie w/Stu
LZ
Do you have the whole week off, or just Monday?
whole week, don't worry, I won't be here all the time!
:) ;) :D

Morey-esque beats Richardson-ruined any day.
-
Gary Wright "Love Is Alive"
-
DC is now the hero of 10@10, as any of the good sets these days seem to have his fingerprints on them. But maybe that's like giving Ben Bernanke credit for saving the economy after he was one of the main guys responsible for ruining it.
-
Hearing Gary Wright and Fleetwood Mac in the same set reminds me of the Day on the Green back then. Peter Frampton was a big hit; what year was his big album?
-
and "Love is Alive" beats "Dreamweaver" any time. VHM Mr Wright.
-
Gary Wright "Love Is Alive"
BOS 4. Technically okay, as The Dream Weaver album came out in June of 1975, but this is definitely more a '76 song than a '75 song. Still, points for not being "Dream Weaver."
-
Boogie w/Stu

Yeah, me too, but I WILL be here all week. ;)

in all honesty, i think he's just cherry-picking old DM and AL sets, more often than not. He has taste but I don't know how heroic that is.

'76.

indeed, the Drive (for example) plays both songs in '75. And plays Orleans' "Dance With Me" in '73. But... they do it consistently.
-
Bee Gees "Jive Talkin'"
-
Day On The Green #3: Robin Trower, Peter Frampton, Dave Mason, Fleetwood Mac, Gary Wright (August 3, 1975).
Called "THE BRITISH ARE COMING" AKA "The INVASION OF THE BRITISH."
-
I'm digging this one. It's very Morey-esque, I think
-
Bee Gees "Jive Talkin'"
BOS6 -- token disco is better than none at all, I suppose.
-
Day On The Green #3: Robin Trower, Peter Frampton, Dave Mason, Fleetwood Mac, Gary Wright (August 3, 1975).

So bummed I missed that one -- I think I had to work. My friends all went, they loved it. When Frampton came back in '76, I had tickets but ended up back in the hospital with a concussion for an auto accident i'd been in. Didn't see Frampton until the I'm In You tour. Talk about your letdowns!
-
Bruce Springsteen "Thunder Road" as if on cue
-
Bee Gees "Jive Talkin'"

Definitely felt a bit tacked on.
Here's the Bruce... I must be psychic!
-
And heeeeeeeeeeeeeere's yer Broooooooooce.
-
Bee Gees "Jive Talkin'"
I know this isn't the most original pick, but it's my BOS. Also, inspiration for one of the best Beavis & Butthead video commentaries: "Is this the Black Crowes?"
-
Isn't it about time for some Bruce?
Speak Vishnu's name and Vishnu shall appear....
-
Will definitely have to listen tonight.
-
Day On The Green #3: Robin Trower, Peter Frampton, Dave Mason, Fleetwood Mac, Gary Wright (August 3, 1975).
Called "THE BRITISH ARE COMING" AKA "The INVASION OF THE BRITISH."
A ton of musicianship in that lineup
-
Well done -- no repeats. In fact, all ten songs are 1st time RR 10@10 era spins.

I went to see Fleetwood Mac. Long day. By the time Trower came out, we were feeling pretty crispy. Left during his awesomely loud set.

He's not a live-in-the-moment type of guy, then.

Renee if you ever play the Chaka Khan cover of "Love is Alive" I will surely faint.

No question, this set was cribbed from old DM setlists. Not a bustout in the bunch, and I'm guessing not much for the gang over at FB to bitch about (I haven't been over there yet to gauge the mood of the populace). So is this just DC tossing us a bone, to keep us interested and listening? 'Cause you know, for all the griping that goes on, no one seems to be tuning away (me included).

Per Renee, Zeppelin gets BOS.

RR may hate spreadsheets, but I'll bet DC has plenty. Remember, he's quite a stats/research geek. He probably knows what DM played and which songs won BOS and how often.

Not to mention that "live for the moment" and "let's have nine of our ten songs be ones most don't ever want to hear again" don't necessarily jive.
-
1. KISS - Rock and Roll All Night
2. Ambrosia - Holdin' On To Yesterday
3. Fleetwood Mac - Over My Head
(News: One of the worst recessions in history)
4. Pink Floyd - Welcome To The Machine
(Movies: Jaws, Tommy, Shampoo)
5. Rocky Horror Picture Show - Time Warp
6. Led Zeppelin - Boogie With Stu
7. Steely Dan - Bad Sneakers
8. Gary Wright - Love Is Alive
(TV: SNL - Good evening. I would like to feed your fingertips to the Wolverines)
9. The Bee Gees - Jive Talking
10. Bruce Springsteen - Thunder Road
-
My alternative 1975 playlist:
1. Jefferson Starship - Play On Love
2. Linda Ronstadt - Faithless Love
3. Fleetwood Mac - I'm So Afraid
4. Major Harris - Love Won't Let Me Wait
5. Ray Stevens - Misty
6. Alice Cooper - Only Women Bleed
7. Steely Dan - Rose Darling
8. Ronnie Laws - Always There (from the album Pressure Sensitive)
9. Faith, Hope & Charity - To Each His Own
10. Bruce Springsteen - Meeting Across The River
Plus six additional songs you could interchange with the above list:
1. Wings - Magneto And Titanium Man
2. Ben E. King - Supernatural Love - Part I & II
3. Fleetwood Mac - Blue Letter (45 mix)
4. Al Green - Full Of Fire
5. Chicago - Brand New Love Affair (Part I & II)
6. The Manhattans - Don't Take Your Love
By the way, I heard RR handing off to DC today - apparently DC was out the past few days. Maybe that's why today's 10@10 sounded better than the previous few when he was off...

Perhaps that's how RR got away with mailing in a rerun the other day. No one was there to ride herd on her.

another swell lineup -- I requested "Misty" from AL nearly every time she did '75, to no avail. One of my favorite cover versions ever. And I just heard "To Each His Own" the other day -- You should check out JJ's '70s Soul Party on KPOO Sat nites at 10.
