wow '70s twice in one week.
instant LN: Iggles with a heartache, baby.
-
She is NOT playing The Pina Colada Song.
No she's not. The stream just died.
ETA: Yes, she is. Stream came back. And now buffering again.
I'm torn. This could be cringe-worthy, but given the patterns of the last couple months, it's almost a breakthrough.
-
OY: Renee loves her some HFHs. I once truly loved the "Pina Colada Song", because I loved Rupert Holmes before most folks knew who he was. But it's rather LN at this point.

are you using KFOG's player or iHeart?

"Argo fuck yourself!"
and fuck TP while yer at it. LN3 "Refugee"

I'm using the backdoor player on streamtheworld.com. It seems to be back again, just several bouts of buffering.
Big fat honkin' LN for Refugee.

BOS George.
-
BOS George.
I just started listening. What a nice way to start.
-
BOS George.
Yup.

I guess, but to my ear '79 is a lot closer to '82 than '76.
BOS2, JJ.
-
Jim, how does the streamtheworld player work? Is it better than the annoying official portal? I'm hoping I can just plug a URL into Winamp...
-
BOS2 JJ. Now we're getting somewhere.
-
I've not heard this Joe Jackson song before. I rather like it.
-

I tend to use iHeart since I'm usually listening to WDAS-AM thru them and it's an easy switch at 10:00.
-
Practically an instrumental here. Was he still Johnny at this point or had he already shortened to John?
-
JCM LN4 "INALWWDMC", much as I like the song. At least it's not the Benatar version.

I just tried iHeart. It's very convenient and fast. Do you know if it's the same bitrate as the regular player? It sounded worse to me when I first switched it on, but comparing back and forth, I'm not sure...

This may work then. Here's the URL:
http://player.streamtheworld.com/liveplayer.php?CALLSIGN=KFOGFMAAC
Pretty no frills, but no ads either. Click and the player launches, with its artificial LED equalizer and everything.

I like the instrumental part. Kinda like the "Sweet Jane" intro. No doubt inspired by it.

Hey, that works pretty good. Thanks! I definitely like that better than the one with the ads.
-
Back firmly in LN territory, with John Cougar (no Boyscoutcamp at this point) and Supertramp following. Both could be worse, but only a little. I guess we're paying the toll for the George and JJ songs.
-
uber-uber-uber LN5 Supertramp. Sheesh.
-
It's amazing what use in a movie can do for a song. I used to think this Supertramp song was run of the mill AOR fodder, but I've loved it ever since I first saw the Magnolia bar scene.

Can't remember where I got that one, but someone (TC? Giter Dunn on FB?) posted it when KFOG's old back-door player went away. It's pretty reliable--today is the first time I can recall having any buffering issues with it (yikes, almost typed "buggering issues" there.)

actually, you were right the first time. ;)
but seriously, it was a fine LP back then, just that nearly every track is tremendously overexposed.
-
I love early Steve Martin but am lukewarm on mature Steve Martin (I feel the same about REM).
-
the clip from The Jerk is a definite "Sally".
BOS3 T.Heads.
-
BOS for the Jerk and Talking Heads' "Heaven".
-
BOS 3, TH. (featured in my "religion" playlist)
-
BOS for the Jerk and Talking Heads' "Heaven".
I've never heard this before, but it's my favorite one that I've heard from Fear of Music.
Is Dennis C. in love?
-
borderline LN but I'll give RLJ a pass to avoid seeming too cranky.
-

Dang, I must have been on the phone for the Jerk clip.
"the new phone books are here! the new phone books are here!"
-
Slot 10 goes to the uptempo rocker. Shades of AL.
-
uber-uber-uber LN6 (!) Cheap Trick.
1. The Eagles - Heartache Tonight
2. Rupert Holmes - Escape (Pina Colada Song)
(News: Iranians take hostages)
3. Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers - Refugee
4. George Harrison - Blow Away
5. Joe Jackson - It's Different For Girls
6. John Mellencamp - I Need A Lover
7. Supertramp - Goodbye Stranger
(Movie: "The Jerk")
8. Talking Heads - Heaven
9. Ricki Lee Jones - Chuck E's In Love
10. Cheap Trick - I want You to Want Me
-
I'll put on the crankypants for WOSing Cheap Trick. I never got them, and this song is lame. I do appreciate the reference to them in Fast Times at Ridgemont High.
-

His later middle of the road stuff is questionable for sure, but he's still capable of greatness when he rises above sell-out mode (see Bowfinger).

I'm not a fan either, and I find the song annoying as well.
-
"Oh man... bummer... I was just getting into it" says Renee... and no one else.
-
What was that RLJ/Tom Waits anecdote? I thought "Chuck E" was her manager or an exec at Warner Bros.?

Bowfinger is awesome. And he wears the best toupees in showbiz -- Elton could take a lesson from Steve.
-

Nope, she is in fact correct. He was a crony that Waits used to hang with at the Troubadour, along with Paul Body and Robert Marchese, who was the club's manager, and later RLJ. (I just finished reading a Waits bio by Barney Hoskyns, so this stuff is fresh in my cerebrum.)

Fully agree. Both LA Story and Roxanne are loaded with lots of physical comedy as well as wonderfully inventive bits, some of which occur in the background and can slip by if you're not watching the right thing at the right moment. I seem to remember The Man With Two Brains being great, too, although I probably haven't seen it in 25 years.

"into the mud, scum queen!" -- one of the great lines of all time.
I'll also put in a plug for The Lonely Guy, which is quite hilarious too.
