I suppose she could do all of the worst themes (White/Keyes, Rita Coolidge, Sheryl Crow), but that's wouldn't be TOO bad.

Didn't a-Ha do a Bond theme too? I'd include that among the worst.

I *LOVE* a-ha's "Living Daylights". I believe we heard it in the last Bond set DM did (for Quantum of Solace in '08)

Fog.... K-Fog.
Tim quipped that we're getting 10 songs inspired by that big new movie opening today... Lincoln. Heh.
-
And we begin with... Tom Jones!! I don't think we got "Thunderball" in either previous Bond set, did we?
über-BOS1 to a welcome bustout!

BOS2 Nancy Sinatra --"You Only Live Twice", easily in my top 5 Bond themes.

Dave's 2008 Bond set:
1. John Barry Orchestra: The James Bond Theme
2. Duran Duran: A View To A Kill
3. Nancy Sinatra: You Only Live Twice
4. Jack White/Alicia Keys: Another Way to Die
5. Shirley Bassey: Goldfinger (BEST OF SET!!)
6. A-Ha: The Living Daylights
7. Carly Simon: Nobody Does It Better
8. McCartney & Wings: Live & Let Die
9. Sheena Easton: For Your Eyes Only
10. Gladys Knight: License to Kill
couldn't find the earlier one, from when Casino Royale opened.
WOS Sheryl Crow, "Tomorrow Never Dies"

WOS Sheryl Crow, "Tomorrow Never Dies"
It's not that bad, imo.

So this is the Sheryl Crow theme that everyone seems to hate so much. I don't think it's that bad either, just that her vocals are a bit weak.
-
WOS Sheryl Crow, "Tomorrow Never Dies"
It's not that bad, imo.
in the context of this set, it won't get much worse, tho'. (unless we hear the Jack White/Alicia Keys abomination -- and we might)

For me, this one is worse. WOS, Duran squared.

BOS3 Duran2, of course.

I predict we'll get Adele, Shirley Bassey and Macca.
-
BOS Duran Duran.
I'm hoping for Garbage.
-
I think with the exception of Rita Coolidge, pretty much all the Bond themes have their advantages. And they're mostly great. But I do have to put Duran Duran at #1 - it captures the general excitement and essence of the franchise (and I think the movie is better than history has treated it).
-
BOS, Carly.
-
BOS4 Carly.

The herky jerky instrumentation just annoys me.

I hope so -- to my knowledge, I still have not heard the new one. (I probably have, but wasn't paying attention)
-
And here's Shirley -- BOS2. The gold standard.
-
And here's Shirley -- BOS2. The gold standard.
Goldfinger? I'm assuming it's not Moonraker.
-
"no, Mr Bond -- I expect you to DIE!!"
über-über BOS5 "Goldfinger".

-
BOS3, "Live and Let Die".
-
VHM Macca, just because it's kinda LN overall.

she also did "Diamonds are Forever", a rather underrated one IMHO
-
And here's radical's Garbage! The band, that is. VHM -- I honestly haven't heard this one since seeing the movie.

BOS2 to Garbage! Love this one. :)
-
BOS6 Dusty, tho I was hoping for Herb Alpert, "Casino"-wise.

-
Adele, of course. BOS(00)7. Heh.

Even tho' I didn't personally need to hear Sheryl Crow, most impressive.
1. Thunderball - Tom Jones - 1965
2. You Only Live Twice - Nancy Sinatra - 1967
3. Tomorrow Never Dies - Sheryl Crow - 1997
(Bond film montage)
4. View to a Kill - Duran Duran - 1985
5. Nobody Does it Better - Carly Simon - 1977
(excellent Goldfinger clip... she better play the song dammit...)
6. Goldfinger - Dame Shirley Bassey - 1964
7. Live and Let Die - Paul McCartney and Wings - 1973
8. The World is Not Enough - Garbage - 1999
(Casino Royale ad from 1967)
9. The Look of Love - Dusty Springfield - 1967
(clip from Skyfall advertisement)
10. Skyfall - Adele - 2012

Oh I dunno... her voice? her dreadful cover versions (literally ALL of them)? Her willingness to sleep with just about anyone? Sheryl 'ho, indeed.

Never got the hate for her.
for me, it started with her (first?) hit song All I Wanna Do it was E V E R Y W H E R E ... and I think it won the song of the year or something huge-ass grammy. That saturation made it just too much for me and it colored a lot of what came after. I do like My Favorite Mistake, though, and maybe a couple other songs by her. I heard she wasn't so nice business-wise, but hey, she is successful and hopefully happy. She's not bad looking, either.
-
I'll grant that her covers are subpar, and certainly AL wasn't impressed by her. However, overplayed or not, "All I Wanna Do", "Everyday Is A Winding Road", "There Goes The Neighborhood", "Steve McQueen" etc. I find enjoyable.
And actually, "The First Cut Is The Deepest" wasn't so bad IMHO.
-

You don't like her because she's promiscuous? Is that limited to women performers, or do you have a problem with male pop stars who sleep around alot too? Because your pickin's get mighty slim if that is so. Or it's just a weird double-standard.

It's not promiscuity per se, but I get the impression she slept her way to a career (and yes, I realize that hardly makes her unique either). But I think a lot of women hate her because of her many hook-ups - "she got to fuck Eric Clapton *and* Lance Armstrong??" - which was more what I was getting at.
-
Despite how much I hated 'All I Wanna Do' and 'Strong Enough', I gave her a pass because she had a long string of reliable tracks after. Until 'The First Cut is the Deepest' which I hated and virtually everything she's released since. For the record I like her version of 'Sweet Child O' Mine'.

forgot about "Everyday Is A Winding Road", I like that one, too.
I don't know "There Goes The Neighborhood", "Steve McQueen" off the top o' me 'ead.
"First Cut.." is such a great song, but remakes stop w Rod. :)

I love the Keith Hampshire version of "First Cut..." that CKRU plays quite often. Here he is doing it about a dozen years ago -- with Lighthouse (!) backing him up, apparently.

KFOG LOVED "There Goes The Neighborhood" in early 1999 - it would have done well on the AAA chart if it had existed at the time. Sort of a fill-in between "My Favorite Mistake" and "Anything But Down". "Steve McQueen" was a bit more up-tempo than its predecessor, "Soak Up The Sun". Both were on her greatest hits collection.
