nope -- I just sent an SOS to my co-workers for one. No CDs in my bag o'tricks either.
-
A co-worker has a iPad -- if the KFOG app ever finishes downloading, I'm good-to-go.
-
AL loves her Monty Python. I like that in a girl.
;)
-
signed-on in time for ABC, one of my suggestions! Yay and BOS1.
-
inevitable but necessary: "Taxman". BOS2.
"If your streaming's blocked
I'll tax your iPad"
-
No love for the Robert Cray Band. Boooooooring.
-
As I said on FB the other day, Robert Cray was the artist AOR stations in the '80s would play to prove they weren't racist. Also necessary in this context, tho'.
-
BOS3: "Money'$ Too Tight" -- Mick Hufnall's finest hour. "did the earth move for ya, Nancy?
-
Is this Simply Red? BOSFRA from me.

indeed -- a cover of an obscure Brit R&B hit by the Valentine Bros. The orig is great too:

LN: Randy Newman -- I'd've much preferred his "It's Money That I Love"
-
Sounds like an extended version of "For the Love of Money", or am I just imagining that there are extra reps of the riffs in there?
I'm not cracking up. I've definitely never heard that soprano sax solo before.

yeah, it's the looooong version, as Don Pardo would say. VHM.
-
Ray can't pay taxes -- he's got a big fat mama.
-
Can't ever knock the Kinks, even if we have heard this 10,000 times.

These songs are like "Jingle Bells" and "White Xmas" in December -- ya gotta play 'em.
-
more Python! And to think there are people who didn't want a Tax Day set... one of my faves each year along with Earth Day and Pride Day.
VHM Yoko Flying Lizards.

I missed the first Python bit. Was it the "Money Programme?"
-
Holy Tiny Tim, Batman! That was amazing, though I wish he'd tuned his uke up before making that recording.
-
Tiny Tim...Donald Duck... now THAT'S true KFOG variety!
BOS4 Spinal Tap!
-
Spinal Tap! Gigantic BOS. Except...what were they called in those days? The Thamesmen?

so, the first Python didn't count as a song but the 2nd (shorter) one did? Seems a bit of a cheat (we coulda heard ABBA!) but still, a fine set.

Do you guys like this? I found the joke wore thin ages ago.

ha, I thought it was just me. No, I don't really dig it. In the right context it might be fine, like English avant garde art rock theater from 1979, which is where it came from (I didn't know this offhand, just read up on the band/act/collaboration that produced it.) But think about what was happening when it hit the scene: disco was doing its last line, punk was getting big, Journey and Rush were just heating up commercially (so that's good) but overall this sounded pretty dang different, which counts for a lot. (I just read that Robert Fripp was part of the band at some point, but I don't think he was on 'Money').
If we didn't hear it like clockwork every year on KFOG's predictable Tax Day set, it might not be so bad. ::)

If we could just hear the Plastic Ono Band live version once, I'd be happy!

as I've said a zillion times, it sounded like Yoko (or a parody of her) back then. I can vividly remember the first time I heard it, driving around Queens in my car with my friend George listening to the late lamented WPIX-FM (which was doing a Punk/New Wavish format called "pure rock" at the time) and "Money" came on and we were llike "what... the.. FUCK??" I can understand that it's a cliche track of the period (and it's also probably on DC's "trigger songs" list), but it really was something in '79.
