I'll admit it: SRW had me splitting at the sides with her O-Town request. As somebody once said, they were shitty by boy band standards.
-
Someone just requested "Southside". Ay carumba.

At least it's in the right year.
But "Ay carumba" indeed at most of this person's other requests.
-
I can't imagine anything mind-blowing is gonna show up in this year, so I'm staying on the Boardwalk today. Have fun, all!
-
What the hell are they doing with the stream? I keep hearing songs from Live from the Archives instead of the broadcast.
And no 10at10, even though it's 10:10!
-
WTF! >:(

Today is the 40th anniv of Led Zep IV, and KFOG just asked on FB "what's your fave track from this classic" -- gee, can ya guess which song SRW picked? ::)

Misty Mountain Hop? ;)

Sundaygal just got a request in but it's not Destiny's Child ;)
Edit: Make that two :o (but still no DC3 ;D )

channeling Harry Nilsson very well. The composition, too.

I feel so lost in this set. if these songs are representative of the year, I guess that means I was avoiding radio back then. When Eddie Vedder's cover of Hide Your Love Away is the most recognizeable song, you know you weren't paying attention to what the kids were listening to.
this R&B sounds like bustout fer shure. But in a year like this, most things are bustouts.

Not even The Strokes?? Dude!
-
I think we need an all-sin set, featuring "Cigarettes and Chocolate Milk", "Cigarettes And Alcohol", and of course, "Smoking Her Clothes".
-
REM? this song reminds me a little of the power pop that Dennis Diken (Smithereens drummer) put out within the last couple of years. (http://www.myspace.com/dennisdikenwithbellsound). I'll throw in the Wondermints, too. I lurve me some power pop, esp the Paisley Underground style stuff.
REM = very nice.

Lenny Kravitz always ruins the fun.

Looks like a step above the last 2001 set...but just a step. The segues/clips today were kinda unnecessarily obnoxious. :-\ At least everything was a bustout, afaik (not too hard for a year we've only been to once...but stranger things have happened)
Anyways, it's time for...Radical's Ratings! ;D
Good Ratings
B
Lenny Kravitz (I have to admit...this one isn't half bad)
REM (This one was NTM but upon first listen, was significantly better than "Imitation of Life")
Ryan Adams
Rufus Wainwright
C
The Strokes
Blink 182
D
Lucinda Williams
Eddie Vedder
F
John Mayer (Complaining that he got his big break in Georgia...smh, just be lucky you got one at all ::) )
Nelly Furtado (She sounds like a toad and not the cute kind)
Necessary Ratings
A
Ryan Adams (Like Pete Yorn last time, quintessential AAA that doesn't get played everywhere else. Although this one got actually got into the 40s on pop, probably due to increased airplay after 9/11)
B
Rufus Wainwright (I enjoy Rufus but it seemed to bog down the already slow pace of this set)
Blink 182 (This wasn't a bad way to end the set)
REM (I guess I'll give this one a bye because it's not overplayed and we haven't heard them on 10@10 in what...a week? :P )
C
The Strokes (Sorry, I hear this on Live 105 allllllllllllll the time)
Lucinda Williams (Might have been better if this set wasn't already so KFOG-centric)
Lenny Kravitz (Completely harmless...but not particularly necessary, other than to speed things up a notch)
D
John Mayer (The only reason that this doesn't get an F is because it's not one of his that we hear that often)
Nelly Futado (At least she's throwing in some pop here, but something more upbeat and/or significantly less annoying would have been better)
F
Eddie Vedder (I just can't find any reason at all to get excited about this one appearing on 10@10)

TANC: Soma-FM just played their version of "Little Drummer Boy"
BTW, did AL avoid 9/11 newsclips again? The first time I hoped she would but sooner or later ya gotta address it. no?

well, I guess maybe next time...
1. Ryan Adams - New York, New York
2. John Mayer - Why Georgia

(Movie: I Am Sam - "You're not like other daddies")
4. Eddie Vedder - You've Got to Hide Your Love Away (B.O.S-Tie!)
5. The Strokes - Last Nite (B.O.S-Tie!)
(Steve Jobs introduces the first iPod)
6. Lenny Kravitz - Dig In
(Movie: Donnie Darko - "What the hell kind of name is that?")
7. Rufus Wainwright - Cigarettes & Chocolate Milk
8. Nelly Furtado - I'm Like a Bird
9. R.E.M. - All the Way to Reno (You're Gonna Be a Star)
(TV: SNL - Drunk Girl)
10. Blink-182 - The Rock Show

I think I saw one FB poster who specifically asked AL not to play any 9/11 clips. I didn't see a response from her, but that may have at least partly contributed to their omission. On the other hand, I could see her just not wanting to include that whole vibe in her show. She does tend to lean toward the positive a lot of the time. (Not that that's a bad thing....)

I thought opening the set with "New York, New York" was a subtle nod to it.
