Title: 18 Oct 2011: It's... 1997
Post by: sundaygal on October 17, 2011, 10:34:52 PM
Two '97 sets in less than a month?  Shoot me...

Pretty run of the mill requests.  Hoping for something different - Blur, Primal Scream and Pavement had excellent albums out that year.  Though, "Song 2" wouldn't exactly elicit a "woo-hoo" from me these days.

I requested Duran Duran, Eleanor McEvoy, and OMD.  We're probably going to get Song 2 along with Smash Mouth, Sugarrhea, Squirrel Nut Zippers, 3EB, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Sublime, Cake, and Beck, with U2 if we're lucky and Green Day if we're not so lucky.

Edit: Or Everlong, which she just posted a link to. :-\  We've heard that song 4x (3x in 1997/1x in the Capricorn set.)

Yes, AL has generally had a tough time with 1996-1999 sets, and regrettably I bet Radical gets about five of those right.

Still, I've been wrong before, hopefully today will be one of those days!

How cool would it be if WE could have our own streaming 10@10s on this page?  Is it possible?  Collectively, we'd put together some pretty eclectic playlists.  Janet Jackson, OMD, Donna Summer, Grateful Dead, NWA, and maybe a RUSH song, or two.

jeez, she waited until after 10:30 to post her clue? I don't have much on my '97 wish-list besides Hanson.

For awhile a friend and I would send each other year-themed concept albums, which would invariably lead into arguments about what year a song belonged to. "The Long And Winding Road" for 2000? Seriously?

I'll be listening but not posting much. Can't get enthused about '97 unless an amazing bustout happens.  "Virtual Insanity" indeed.

yup -- a little TOO-slavish an imitation for my taste.

INXS arrive on schedule.

BOS Cardigans, really one of the best singles of that year, even if it's a frequent flier.

What *is* this? Solo stuff? I've never heard it before. Is it from a soundtrack? It's awful crap.

First time I've heard it (those it's the third version I've heard in a week). Wasn't Joan Osborne's version (the original?) released around this time, too? Maybe '96?

apparently Adele has a version, which is probably why AL is playing it.

BOS3 Mother Theresa.

Yeah, that was the second version of the week. Not so bad, either.

I hope we don't get Lady Di clips, too. For once, I'd like Mother Teresa to take spotlight.

I kind of like "Torn", though it's inspiring some gross jokes that probably should remain in my head.

But only cause they're not very funny.  ;)

"king of the world!" --> Semi-Charmed Life

"Female of the Species" --> Dolly the sheep.

Doesn't look half bad.  I'm thrilled that 8/10 my predictions didn't come true.  Looks like we got about seven bustouts (Jamiroquai, Bob Dylan, Natalie Imbruglia, Pearl Jam, Pavement and yes...even Green Day and INXS).  A few uWB's, but I guess uWB's > uWK's.  She's def. been including more pop in these sets lately.

Listening to the replay...this is def. as good as any of AL's 90 sets.  Good variety, enough rarities & I guess 10@10 wouldn't be 10@10 without one or two power-Katrinas per set too (in this case, 3EB.)  I do remember that INXS from 1997 (I think it was their last single before he off'd himself) and at least that's not one that KFOG plays all the time.  Green Day didn't even sound too bad in between Space, Pavement, rare PJ, etc.
