But at least AL is soliciting suggestions. I'm at an all-day off-site conference tomorrow, so no 10@10s for me (which means one of my requests will probably make the cut).

I requested Scritti Politti and my beloved Strawberry Switchblade ("Scabby witches from Scotland", said Star Hits mag at the time. Of course, that made me buy the album right there!)
-
The people who request songs from the wrong year are on mah LAST nerve, honey!
-
I dunno where to begin with this one: someone on FB posted this
PLEASE DO NOT PLAY 'Do they know it's Christmas' or 'We are the World'!!! (Or any remake of Bang a Gong other than Bowie's - and course the original by Mott the Hoople.)
Ok, dude, "Bang a Gong" was T.Rex. but then he follows up with
How about Guadalcanal Diaries 'Watusi Rodeo'
(sorry, dude, wrong year -- that was '83) Georgia Satellites 'Keep Your Hands to Yourself'
(wrong year again -- that was '86) ... and then he tops it off with
and that great duet of Bowie and Jagger in their remake of 'Dancin' in the Streets'. (I'm usually not big on covers/remakes but this has the double advantage of having Mick with a much earlier release and the sheer fact that it's Bowie and Jagger!)
-- making him the only person on EARTH who likes the Bowie/Jagger "DITS" cover.
I'm exhausted.

I have to admit that I laughed, but thanks for the backup!

You Spin me Round... fun song, probably overplayed.

Decent leadoff song, if that's what it was.
-
Prince, "pop life". Glad it's not little red corvette.
Into some SRV chameleon blues. Could be any decade from 1950s to today. If she's going to play blues, why not in an earlier set and someone other than SRV?
-
You Spin Me always makes me think of my rare forays into the NYC club scene back then. I remember dancing to this at Tunnel and some club in the East Village, where I *think* the Fillmore East used to be.
Pop Life is pretty cool. What is that crowd scene noise from? it's set apart in a way that makes it seem fairly notorious.
I saw SRV in this year, so VHM!
-
I like that Weird Al sampled "Pop Life" in "Hardware Store".
-
All She Wants To Do Is... :'(
I dislike Don Henley except maybe for Dirty Laundry. Also, the Eagles suck!
Sorry for the negativity.. I'll try to cheer up.

believe it or not, SRV's strat-blues were a unique turn of events back then, given the other stuff on the scene ... like this Don Henley.
His appearance on David Bowie's Let's Dance album gave him some modern rock cred, too.

I could be convinced.

Fun cheesy pop with TT, Lay your hands on me. VHM.
-
BOS Prince and Thompson Twins. Gawd, I had the biggest crush on Tom Bailey.

BOS Thompson Twins, and proxy of shray.

I'm never around to post requests, but I hope she pulls out at least one alternative song. I'm thinking Love and Rockets (If There's a Heaven Above) or REM (Driver 8). So many good 1985 songs that weren't on the radio.
-
Go Joe Montana and 49ers! I was on a ferry in the Bay when my uncle reported they had won. He had a cool transistor radio to listen to the game.
-
Hooters, Day by Day. NTM. Even if I don't like something, I'd rather it be new.

I like Henley, but my wife calls him "The Whiner!"

I'm a big TT head too! Wish I'd heard it. They were a great live band.
-
Phil Collins, Take me Home. Somehow inoffensive today, but I wouldn't call it a good choice.

oh, yeah! that's right. I will never forget again!
BIG BOS to Phil Collins Take Me Home. great song.

FYC, Johnny Come Home. Also NTM, so I'll give it a VHM.

I think even Mike might like this one, even if he would never admit it in public.
My gf back then had a big star crush on Roland Gift, so proxy BOS on her behalf. We're a couple years away from She Drahves Mah Crahzahy, at least.

I won't rat you out! But really, this one made me switch to iTunes. Listening to Tool to clear my head.

"I can't drink it, it makes me nauseous."
Well, lady, you're (oh sh**) your misuse -- AND your affected pronunciation of 'nauseous' -- makes me nauseated.
(should I put this in the Copyedit 101 thread? or Bitch and Moan thread?)
I had this Julian Lennon album (Valotte, I think?) but hardly ever played. Dang, he sounds like daddy. HM.
ETA: I see that dictionary.com has the first def of 'nauseous' to also mean 'nauseated'. I'll just shut up now, I'm making myself nauseated.

Frequent flier Alarm gets a snooze. "Give Me Strength" indeed.

BOS TT, Prince, FYC. No strong recommendations on any of those, but they were at least somewhat deeper cuts.

Wow, nobody noticed that FYC's "Johnny Come Home" was a MAJOR bustout? Def gets my BOS. It's on my wishlist but I didn't request it this time around. I'm fairly stunned that AL finally played it after all this time. So kudos fot that. Otherwise it sounds like it was pleasant but not earth-shattering.

She's played it before, because I remember in a previous 1985 set it went Smalltown Boy > Johnny Come Home. Still a good rarity, though.

wow, I'd totally forgotten that -- one of her first 1985 sets in 2009 (if not *the* first).

Back in '85 they were jokingly referred to as "U3". ;)
