today's the 25th anniv of the release of "Graceland", apparently. You can call her AL!
(and yes these late-'80s years are coming up every 3 weeks like clockwork)
ETA: I may be MIA for this one -- 10:00 work meeting possible.
-
meeting hasn't materialized... yet. but as predicted "You can Call Me AL"
"I don't find this stuff amusing anymore" indeed.
-
VHM, Mr. Simon. This one has me doing a small chair dance.
-
Early BOS Echo, bringing on the dancing bunnymen

A good song, but the biggest hit from the album. Could easily have picked a deeper cut.
HM for Echo and the Bunnymen.
-
VHM Pretenders, "Mah bay-buh".
-
Crowded House are putting me to sleep. But at least it ain't "Don't Dream..."
-
Why did he use the scary voice for the "Stand By Me" trailer? And whyyyyyyyyy do we have to hear this song? Ugh.
-
About 20 years ago a good friend was on a flight from NY to Dallas sitting next to Ben E. King, had a nice talk. "Stand By Me"/"Sit By Me"
-

LOL. But you have to admit, AL found a way to get a 60s tune into an 80s set, which I appreciate...
-
VHM Stand By Me, the movie. Not sure we needed "Stand By Me" the song. But the '60s reneaissance continues on KFOG!
-
uber-BOS2 Bowie's fantabulous "Absolute Beginners", making a welcome 2nd appearance in the AL era.

Yes, it's true! And Bowie more than makes up for it!!!!

It was written by Ben E King, Jerry Leiber (who died this week) & Mike Stoller and was a hit again in '86.
-
I'll give an HM for David Bowie, but "Absolute Beginners" isn't a very good song.

His second version of it is much better. Or third, maybe... :)

I figured that, too. I still would rather never hear it again.

damn I forgot that -- it makes perfect sense now. She could've done a "'50s Friday" built around Leiber/Stoller.

sure you're not thinking of "Cat People"?
OMFG: the looooooong version!!

are you standing by that statement? nyuk
it's a great time to hear it, IMHO.
Like the David Bowie.
BOS Echo and the Bunnymen. When they did this song back in May, Ian M sang maybe two lines and then just stopped singing while the band played the rest of the song. It was one of those crowd sing-alongs. The kind where you feel ripped off by some drunk rock star.
ETA: change my BOS vote to Abs Beginners. It's gorgeous.
-
OMFG2 and BOS3: "Human".
I *lurve* the spoken bit at the end.
And this was on my '86 wishlist!
WOS Boys Don't Cry.

No, but maybe I'm just thinking of the Live from the BBC version. I thought I had another studio version somewhere...
-
If its '86 its "I Wanna Be A Cowboy"
-
As silly as this song is, it ALWAYS gets me doing the white girl shoulder dance all enthusiastic-like.

Yeah, I'm a sucker for that, too.
-
I heard that.
-
Holee Crap! Falco!! BOS4
-
In addition to the Bay Bridge 50th anniv, '86 was also the 100th anniv of the Statue of Liberty, I was in NYC then for that huge fireworks/celebration that July 4th.

BOS Sam Kinnison in "Back To School"
-
BOS Sam and Rodney

Oh, thanks! I was racking my brain on that one.
-
BOS5 PIL. This was an impressive set, ahtellyoowhut.
and one of AL's longest in a while. "Human" was a bustout, afaik.
