Title: 17 May 2011: It's... 1989
Post by: sundaygal on May 16, 2011, 06:30:15 PM
Someone has already requested Love Shack.  Gawd.  OTOH, someone else requested The Stone Roses "I Am The Resurrection".  Epic.

Added bonus for me:  My HS graduation year!

C'mon, let's get some votes going for "The Other Fine Young Cannibals", aka Roachford. You know you want to hear them!

Lawd, deliver us from "Love Shack", the Proclaimers, FYC, TFF, XTC, "Veronica", "Everything is Broken"...  Fogheads are being predictably predictable.

Yeah, it's bad enough having "I'm Gonna Be..." be eligible for both 1988 and 1993, no need to throw a wrong year in there as well!

BOS Orbison, love that song
BOS Berlin Wall coming down. I never get tired of that news.

XTC king for a day -- never know why people like that song, quite uninteresting. However, I love the catchy Majors and Generals. How can you not be happy with a pop song about war with a video that includes Sr. Richard Branson dancing.

And yay, another BOS for Lightning Seeds.

a bustout would be a "blessing from above", AL.

Lightning Seeds gets a VHM, tho'.

yeesh, "Veronica" -- I'd've much preferred "My Brave Face", as EC/Macca collabs go.

indeed. I don't know why anyone would request such a thing, but Fogheads are funny that way.

Not to mention we haven't heard "My Brave Face" a zillion times on KFOG already. I want to say it appeared once on 10@10.

UBER BOS Pixies... and GOD IS SEEEEVEEN!

Sure, there are many other great songs on that album (Gouge Away, Silver, Wave of Mutilation) but we'll take what we can get here. At least it wasn't "Here Comes your Man", one of the biggest overplayed snoozes by those who like their Pixies "lite".

one of my pet peeves is when people use a chimp (in advertising, in movies, etc) and call it a "monkey."

This has nothing to do with the Pixies... they know what a monkey is, for reals.

Robbie Robertson doing a dime store impression of Leonard Cohen.

Not a bad song, but it's not especially noticeable to me. No surprises so far in this set. Surprisingly dull.

Not being either a huge Pixies or Replacements fan (guess I came late to the parties), this is the most known (and probably the most accessible) 'Mats song out to me.  I imagine hardcore 'Mats fans think of this song like Pixies fans think of Here Comes Your Man, overplayed and not representative.

But I likes it!
