Title: 2 May 2011.... It's 1996!
Post by: Big Fingers McGee on May 01, 2011, 04:34:57 PM
And what bold suggestions Fogheads are making on Facebook. To whit:

A Long December
Wonder (Or Jealousy)
Missing
Only Wanna Be With You
Somebody really really wants to hear No Doubt.
As least Scott Fisher admits he has to think about it.

WARNING:  The probability of this being a excruciating set is high.

I requesting one of the few enjoyable songs of 1996, Where It's At - Beck.  Let's make it out, baby...

Probably my favorite SNL musical performance of all time.

Woohoo Beck!

So far so good. I really liked the TOTHK, "I'm Free". Don't know the band, NTM. (Wasn't the Soup Dragons song of that title). VHM Beck, Where It's At.

Take me home with my elevator bones.

Something stinks...Oh, it's those Phish heads!
BOS1...Beck knows where it's at.  The Church of Scientology!

WOS COS. A friend claims he can't listen to Beck's music because of all the subliminal messages they put in.

Chris Issak...meh.

Here's some smooth jazz (NTM). Who is this?

Chris Isaak puts the brakes on prematurely, slowing the party down to a near halt. Ok song but pretty standard for him.

Followed by some 70's throwback that is pleasant but even mellower.

Followed by some 60's throwback about Westminster. Peter Paul and Mary in 1996?

I liked the song after Beck, "70s throwback" is a decent description.   Beck's not bad, either, but I had no idea he was a Scientologist.

this current song, meh.

This Suzanne Vega song is also NTM.

This is TOTALLY Ack-snooze-tic Sunrise. Although Suzanne Vega sounded good (NTM).

WOS Oasis. I cannot stand the whiny voice and faux-romantic themes that make them a chick-magnet.

VHM Garbage. Well, VHM Butch Vig more like it. I like the speeded-up tape loop in the bridge although it gets repetitive once you notice it.

After Chris Isaak was Keb Mo', "More Than One Way Home," followed by John Wesley Harding, "Kiss Me Miss Liberty"

Thanks, Wayback.

Ok, absolutely WOS No Doubt. I'll have to BOS the first song I guess. That's pretty sad.

Unoffensive but as dull as most of the set, 6th Avenue Heartache. A song destined to play from tinny speakers at the supermarket from the day it was born.

No idea what that clip is from.  I'll give the Wallflowers an HM.  Not too exciting though.

I'm guessing the clip was from the movie "The First Wives Club" with Goldie Hawn, Bette Midler, Diane Keaton.

Someone let Annalisa know that playing multiple snippets from the same movie does not qualify for atmosphere. You gotta mix that up a bit.

Especially a movie that nobody saw and doesn't have funny clips.

Wow, apparently I gave a BOS to Phish for "Free". Not a Phish fan but it was a nice song. BOS Beck also.

VHM Suzanne Vega "Caramel" and Joan Jett (a welcome shot of wakefulness but too late for the set). Overall, this was a pretty bad set. Songs I would have liked instead from 1996:

311: Down
Eels: Novocaine for the soul
Alice in Chains: Heaven Beside You

BOS to Keb' Mo.  Meh @ the unnecessary string of hits near the end.  Phish and Beck were pretty unnecessary too.  At least we haven't heard 6th Avenue Heartache in awhile.  I would have preferred One Headlight (which many of the Hot AC's have even been laying off.)  No Doubt gets WOS.  I agree about the multiple clips from the same movie issue.

don't recall the movie, but I love this line she played:

"You think just because I'm a movie star that I don't have feelings.  Well, I'm an ACTRESS!  I have ALL of them!"

I missed it, but nice bit of editorializing from AL, including a clip about Chuck & Di's marriage going on the rocks.
