Title: 19 Nov 2010: it's... 1973!
Post by: RGMike on November 18, 2010, 07:43:53 PM
a fine way to end a (mostly) stellar week.

On guy requested EJ's "Step into Christmas" -- I was tempted to tell him to just tune in to KOIT; he can hear it every 2 hours for the next month...

To be fair, that is just about my favorite of all Christmas songs, and I could never hear it too often.

yeah, good one, but that cascading laser-muskrat-chattery keyword right after he sings "The Admission is free.." makes me go tee-hee...

I've requested more NY Dolls & Guilty by Bonnie Raitt, which I just heard for the first time yesterday on a mixtape CD someone recently made for me.  I thought it was Cat Power for a few seconds into it.  I was so floored, I played it 3 times in a row! :)

early Bonnie is quite wonderful. Home Plate is one great LP all the way thru.

Funny - in 1991, when "Something To Talk About" became Bonnie Raitt's first Top 40 hit, various radio stations were referring to her as "new artist Bonnie Raitt".

Agreed r/ "Step Into Christmas" - may not technically qualify as a Katrina, or even a bad song, but is not what I'd consider 10@10 material.

Of course, that has a better chance of being played than "Basketball Jones". OTOH, I think "Nutbush City Limits" has a chance.

one of the cool things that Bob on the Drive and Rob on the Peak have done in Decembers past is dropping in Xmas songs in their respective years (one per set). I always wondered why Dave didn't do that -- of course it makes it hard to recycle those sets as reruns in July.

the Dan takes us back to their old school, before the term "old school" meant what it does now.  BOS1

WOS Tricky Dick.  I can't even stand to hear his voice.

That reminds me--how did his grandson who was hooked up with the barely-legal Jersey skank do in the congressional election?

The Nixon clip would've been a perfect segue into my Bonnie Raitt request.  I'm just sayin'.

The BOSes just keep on coming: Feats, Fat Man in the Bathtub. Proxy of Shray, too.

All I want in this life and time is some hit-and-run.

I'll proxy shray for Thin Lizzy, too. I just have a feeling.

The Little Feats seems to have influenced Robert Palmer, IMHO.

Panama Red, this is more old fart drug music, right?   BOS to the steel guitarist...

inevitable Doobs -- be glad when Concert 4 Kidz is over.

I believe that was the great Buddy Cage. A pedal-steel virtuoso if there ever was one.

So cool to hear this version, as opposed to the polished version the Eagles gave us a year or so later. Still another BOS.

And yet another for Supah-Fly!

How's the Mighty Zep suit ya? We're pretty close to a 10-way tie here, only the Doobs might be considered an also-ran.

BOS-whatever Dancing Days.

Zep sounds good. Too bad I didn't get to listen to this in its entirety, but the fact that we're rewiring I guess makes it worth it.

Well, if all I missed was a frequent (super)flier and "Dancing days" I don't feel terrible. Still, a superior set in a superior week.

ETA: ah, nobody mentioned Al Green -- BOS6!
