The "week of sevens" concludes. Will Sylvester make an appearance?
-
Can only hope for some "when they were good" Journey. I don't spend enough time on FB to get requests to AL.

heh, since my first concert was Journey "when they were bad" (1979) I wouldn't mind hearing something from their Steve Perry days. perhaps the double-play awesomeness of "Lovin', Touchin', Squeezin'" > "City of the Angels"
:)

there were a number of requests for "wtwgJ". "Please, pre-Steve Perry!!" someone begged. OTOH, several people wanna hear "Lights"...

you must be made to see the evil of your ways, my son.
I saw J-when-they-were-good open for ELO at NYC's Beacon Theater in '77 or so. Wasn't a fan, as they were new, so I don't have much recollection. I think we saw them as rather Santana-ish

ha! yes, I'm fully aware they were lame back then, but what can I do? I thought they were "awesome" and will always have a fondness for them. (of course, you already knew I was beyond hope b/c I like Rush..)
For this set, I hope we do get wtwgJ since it's so rare to hear that played on the radio. But would it be safe to say they'd be almost a forgotten cult band if Steve Perry with his hair products and coke connections hadn't come along?

proxy of GazWOS to the Doobs, iirc. BOS2 Boz's fab third single from Silk Degrees -- how this failed to make the Top 40 is a puzzlement.

nice to hear Sly. I might be able to catch some of the broadcasts during advisory period, or until they start blocking radio broadcasts. Earlier, I couldn't even log onto 10at10club!

more great bass! Rocco (TOP) and CB's bassists were quite inspirational to me.
-
Well, ya KNEW "Soul Vaccination" would lead to the fabulous Sylvester! This live "You Make mah Body STRONG" is an ATBB fo' shizzle. (and fo' drizzle, since he's got the Weather Girls on backing vox.) uber-BOS6.
Ha! Syl into "I Wanna Be Your Boyfriend". BOS7 the equally fab Rubinoos. This is turning into one for the ages.

Hey, I can see the Transbay Terminal in this shot! Who'd a-thought I'd become nostalgic about a building I never went into?
-
Odds of Journey and "Lights" finishing off the set -- pretty damned high, I would think.

Woohoo! Speaking of first concerts... they opened a Day on the Green that was mine (The Winter Bros, seperate and together, Skynrd, Climax Blues Band, and EQ)

I'm thinking that's the Embaracadero Freeway. If this shot were taken now, it would have been blocked by One Rincon. I want to say that the on/off ramps in this picture led to Battery Street.
But I could be wrong.

I've never been happier to see a prediction not come true. ;)
But I assume we'll get J-when-they-sucked in the '80s Local set.

The entry mentions their manager Matt Kaufman, who is (or was, membership is failing) a member of my golf club (Tilden Men's, no country clubbin' here). Several years ago I had him track down "Savin' My Love" for me on mp3. Hokey, guitar laden epic, that I am going to listen to now.

Amen. Probably my least favorite Journey tune. And arguably my least favorite SF-related song.

I obviously wasn't keeping very good count. And I don't really mind "Lights" -- Journey when they were going bad, like milk just before it turns...
-
For the 1980's (and what are the chances we'll have 1968, 1978, 1988 and 1998 sets to round out the week?):
Journey and Huey Lewis I have to think are givens.
Romeo Void
Starship, preferably still with the Jefferson
more Pointers?
Night Ranger (I would vote for "Sentimental Street")
that's just off the top of my rapidly-diminishing mind.

Have you heard that SF song now in rotation on KFOG -- much, much worse. Just horrendous. Gag.

You're probably right about the Embarcadero Freeway. I'm a true SF local - a NON driver, so I tend to get my freeways mixed-up. :)

AL said this was only part one of the 70s local scene, so Journey 'wtwg' still might appear. So that means Journey can appear next week AND the week after!

that's by Train. it was discussed here a while back as being a very good Stones imitation.

indeed, but that was before it ("Save Me San Francisco") became massively overplayed. ;) It's still better than "Hey Soul Sister", tho'.
"Like a virgin,you're Madonna/
And I'm always gonna wanna"
Sheesh.

I'm sure they're overplayed on KFOG, but since I don't listen that much, when I *do* hear them they seem to be ok.

That's easy to do - I'll let this go :P
Played "We Care A Lot" as an iPOD extra recently - funny how much more I appreciate them now than I did in their heyday.
And how could I forget about Sammy Hagar?
"Save Me San Francisco" is at least the second SF-based hit by Train - "Get To Me", which was featured in a phone commercial had some rather vague driving instructions.

"I'm so gangsta, I'm so thug
You're the only one I'm dreaming of "
It's really just one insipid rhyme/'80s song reference after another.
