A groundswell for "Baby Got Back" -- could we actually hear Young MC and Sir Mix-A-Lot in the same week?
-
missed song #1 -- VHM REM "Sidewinder sleeps".
-
BOS1 Helpless - Sugar :)

Here's some Good Stuff :) (someone's a happy camper now - hehe)

Here's some Good Stuff :)
well, at least we didn't hear "Love Shack" the other day ;D This seemed a tad too recycled in '92 for my taste. And nobody should have to nibble Fred Schneider's toes. Er, ewww.

Very good stuff. These first three are all rarities, as far as I know.
Hey, Sunday -- are you going to see the B52's and Blondie on Monday? I am!

I'm not going, but it sure sounds like a fun show! Have a great time!!! :)
(This Phil Collins song - oy, why?)

WOS Phil/Genesis.
Indeed, AD is a rarity -- not in the Shraytabase but I swear Dave played it once. He also played "Good Stuff" exactly once.

Can't listen but watching the posts
-
i didn't dig that Arrrested Dev. That was the kind of song that made me change the channel back in 92
Good Stuff gets a B(52)OS
The Genesis? They certainly were at the end of their run at this point, which was a slow spiral into pop/shlock, but it gets a HMFRA.
kd lang! another BOS

BOS KD Lang
-
I echo the WOS Phil/Gen w/o even knowing the tune!
-
Upon first listen I'm not too thrilled with this KD Lang song. But it gets points for being a song that isn't "constant craving".
-
INXS "Beautiful Girl"- I saw INXS (with Michael Hutchence) for $10 at HP Pavilion mid-90's and also at the Warfield (they were loud there, but fun)!

I love it. I have this album, which is awesome. Her voice is just so beautiful.

Lithium - Nirvana BOS2

Miss Chatelaine --is that kd langs's drag name?

missed it -- was on the phone -- but if it was "Constant Craving" it's a Moreytrina and gets a snooze from me. Anything else from that album is a BOSFRA.
-

I would assume kd's drag name would be MISTER Butch-elaine.
-
Arrested Dev., Sugar, B-52s, Genesis, KD Lang into Nirvana. Annalisa Kfog is really going all over the place today. I mean we already got our hip-hop out of the way at song #3, though I too am still keeping my fingers crossed for Baby Got Back.

I am hoping to get AL to play something from Shadowland in a 1988 set. *LOVE* that LP.

She just corrected herself, and it was Sir Mix-A-Lot she thought was Digital Underground :o

I realized a lot of rap "sounds the same" to a lot of (older?) white folks, but Humpty's voice is high and nasal and Sir M's is deep'n'nasty.
-
Obviously I have to pick "Good Stuff" for BOS, although I'm pleasantly surprised Sir Mix-A-Lot got played too. How edited was the version played?
And obviously I'll have to listen to the replay.

Uh sure. (Not really (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intentional_fallacy). I just thought it was a funny thing to throw out there. Also kind of a Marky Mark thing: "Say hi to your mother for me.")

10. Sir Mix-a-Lot- Baby Got Back (BOS!!)
2nd time this week that a rap song won BOS -- I'm interested to see if this results in more rap requests honored in '80s/'90s sets, and I'm also curious if there was any kind of pushback via phone or email from rap-hatas complaining to AL. I'm not a fan of gangsta stuff from the '90s onward, but the earlier records that are either funny/clever (like "Bust a Move") or political (like "The Message") would be welcome.

I'll request Going Back to Cali by LL Cool J when 1987 comes up!

amazingly, Dave actually played that once. Clearly he only likes rappers with 6-pack abs. (See: "Rico Suave") ;)

I used this line on FB last nite too -- several folks there *swear* that Dave played "Baby Got Back" before. But we know better.

Fat Boys, Notorious B.I.G. and dudes like Run DMC never had to say "Hey, my rhymes are UP HERE!" :)

Semi-related aside, speaking of rappers with six-packs: There was a mini-scandal a few years ago when a steroid supplier was tied to a few suddenly-and-suspiciously bulked-up hip-hoppers (50 Cent and Timbaland, IIRC). Opined one wag: "Does that make them ineligible for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame?"
