Hump Day is our '60s day this week.
-
I've been noticing a pattern... it seems each week we get a 60's set, a 70's set, an 80's set, a 90's set, and usually one 'special' set. I wager we'll get 1996 tomorrow.

This has been the pattern (more or less) since AL took over, actually, tho' "theme" sets apparently fall in-and-out-of-favor. I've got great suggestions for '96 if that happens.
BOS the Animals' twin-spin!

Sounds like the non-Spector version of Ike and Tina's "River Deep Mountain High"
heard this before?
-
It's a garage rock 10@10, at least up thru ? & the Mysterians.
Wait! Is this Ike & Tina? I believe it is!
-
uh=oh -- wrong version of Ike & Tina's "River Deep" is a MAJOR faux-pas in my book.
As usual I can't get to AL's FB page to comment.

She's probably being over sensitive to the anti-Katrina backlash, and going for rarity!
I agree it's a mistake.

Really? The Spector version is the classic, unquestionably, but I'm digging hearing the alternate just for variety's sake.
-
Ha-HAH! we all be Cool-jerkin'! BOS3.

well, geek that I am, I suspect this version isn't even from '66, but is a later re-recording.

I think Nelson Riddle performed the version that was used on the show, but this ain't that one. Iirc, there were about a zillion versions of this out in the wake of Bat-mania.

I once heard this bass player claim women couldn't play bass. Had he forgotten about Carol Kaye? One of her great bass lines. You can hear the big felt pick!

And we finish with the Left Banke's version of Walk Away Renee. (Just heard this yesterday afternoon on the local Top 40 Oldies station, KLYC.) Was this the original recording?
ETA: Or maybe not! Counting the two twin-spins, how many songs is this so far?

Winchester Cathedral is unnecessary in my book.

I'd love to hear a Left Banke twin spin!

yes, with Pretty Ballerina, maybe?
I first remember hearing Pretty Ballerina when Etienne de Rocher played it at the Cafe Du Nord. (Etienne was singer songwriter who lived in Oakland, and has since relaoceted to South Carolina or somewhere south..)

Wow, this was a lot of fun - I caught the replay, and tried not to read this thread ahead of the songs (I'm such a geek). BOS to PR&R^2. When I lived in Boston in the fall of '95, WODS's overnight DJ would play "Steppin' Out" once in a while, which I appreciated. (I once called in and asked him to play "Mr. Sun, Mr. Moon": he didn't have that, so he played "Good Thing.")
And nice to see all the Left Banke love. I likewise adore "Pretty Ballerina," enough so that I bought their more-than-I-needed comp There's Gonna Be a Storm. One song to seek out from them is "And Suddenly," a noncharter that the Cherry People had a minor hit with in '68.
