Title: 16 June 2010: it's... 1997
Post by: RGMike on June 16, 2010, 08:00:34 AM
No clues as of 9pm last nite.  I'm thinking today and tomorrow will be some combination of '90s and '70s and then Friday another "Dads'N'Grads" set.  And a Summer set on Monday?

well, it's the best '90s year -- 1997.  (or it CAN be, if we're lucky).  But WOS "Please Don't Tell Her I Love Her", a snoozy TOTHK from Big Bore Todd and the Monsters.

AAAACK! WOS2  Sister Hazel, one of the regrettable Hootie clones of the mid-to-late '90s.

It's a catchy tune, but the lyrics suck.

yes, I don't dig it at all....

at this rate, I don't think this set will float my boat.

I'll give a BOS to Fiona Apple, though this isn't really one of her best.

I'm wondering if AL is afraid to ask for requests in '90s sets because she doesn't want to stray too far from the KFOG playlists of the time (last week's 1990 set was a "Mystery Year" so no Foghead suggestions for that one either).  "MMMMBop" or White Town's "Your Woman" would really make my morning.

it was the last movie to play at the late, great Alhambra theater on upper Polk St., before it closed and became a gym. So it's a fond memory for me, if nothing else.

Right, OMC.  It's always good to here New Zealand represented on 10at10.  I just read that the singer of this song (Pauly Fuemana) died in January of this year after a long illness.  He was only 40.

the Royal theater was on Polk near California. But it was a bit of a fleabag, whereas the Alhambra was a real old-school movie palace.

BOS to Hank Hill, the Everyman Hero, just trying to keep things together.   I used to find King Of The Hill boring, but I've come around: it's a great family show.

well, after a dreadful start, this one really came around -- as often happens in the '90s, the best songs were the Live 105 staples KFOG was ignoring at the time.

1. Big Head Todd & The Monsters- Please Don't Tell Her
 2.  Sister Hazel- All For You
(Movie: Wag The Dog)
 3.  Mark Knopfler- Wag The Dog
 4.  Fiona Apple- Criminal (BOS-tie!)
(Movie: Men In Black)
 5.  OMC- How Bizarre
 6.  Chumbawumba- Tubthumping
(Ad-Give me a break- Kit-Kat)
 7.  Luscious Jackson- Naked Eye
(News: During funeral for Princess Diana, word of Mother Teresa's passing)
 8.  Radiohead- Karma Police
(TV: King Of The Hill)
 9.  Blur- Song 2 (woo-hoo ; )
10. Mighty Mighty Bosstones- The Impression That I Get (BOS-tie!!)

Ack...I missed my alarm and woke up at 11, only to find I missed a 90s set  :-\

Although, looking at the list, there's an awful-lot of deja-vu.  She's only gone to 97 twice before but 7 of these are repeats (including the MMB which is a 3-peat.)  The other ones are Chumbawamba, Luscious Jackson, (VHM & BOS, those two which I'll be sure to tune in at 10 PM for) and Radiohead, which is just overplayed in general..

I'd've sworn the Radiohead was a bustout -- I'll take your word that AL has played it before but it's a rarity for me since it's not a KFOG playlist staple and I haven't listened to Live 105 in ages.  Guess the MMBs are giving the Runaways a, er, run for their money as one of AL's personal Katrinas.

Actually I think you're right about Radiohead being a bustout.  (It was the other 7 that I didn't mention -- besides Radiohead, Chumbawamba and Luscious Jackson that were repeats.)  I agree it's not really a KFOG staple, but I hear it all the time on Live 105, Channel 92.3, and Alice even  :o
