fo' yo' lurve, baby!
-
Yardbirds: BMOS, WLOS. (best music, worst lyrics)
-
For Your
Bongos Love.
yeah, how about an all bongo set someday?
-
Easy BOS for me--Kinks, I Need You. Incredibly catchy chorus, and another of their patented syncopated guitar riffs, sort of All Day And All of the Night turned on its side.
-
Woo Hoo! BOS rare Kink-iness! "I Need You"
-
how great are the Kinks?
-
woo hooo hang on, Alicat here for the set!
-
Didn't we hear "Sloopy" recently? Is it the unedited version?
-
And we all know who was a member of the McCoys before striking out on his own a few years later? Hint: Think guitar gunslinger.
-

steve miller? Joe walsh?
-
Uptight and outta sight. right on.
-

Jesse Winchester? ;)
Rock and roll, sloopy-koo!
BOS2 Stevie, gettin' all uptight 'n' shit.

The only time he feels alright is when he's rewriting himself.
"Hang on Sloopy" always makes me think of the Seinfeld episode where Jerry gets all cutesy with his new gf and they call each other "Schmoopy."
BOS to Stevie's "Uptight."

Rick Derringer

Derringer?

Mr. Zehringer, as Mike alluded.
-
What *is* that effect at the very top of "Stop!" - just an organ wavering into high notes?
-
BOS3 Super Supes. "Stop!"
-
"I try so hard
hard to be patient
hoping you'll stop
this infatuatient"
-
Dingdingding!!!
I am pleased that you in fact *do* know who it was. We're doing our job around here, making sure the world is safe for obscure trivia.
BOS2&3, the Motown twin-spin, Stevie and the Supremes.
-
great slip in the newscast: "anti-American" instead of "American anti-aircraft".

I don't really consider that "obscure" -- used to be, everybody knew that fact. I'm sure we've discussed it here, before.
BOS4 Animals, BOS5 early pre-pretentiousness Moodies.

yes, it was. and good segue into the Animules We Got Get Outta This Place, the soldiers' POV.
...and here we have the corollary POV: Go Now!

I didn't know -- or maybe I forgot it -- so it was obscure for me.
-
BOS Denny Laine era Moodies.
-
Didja ever notice that the last "Now!" of "Go Now" fades out too soon?
BOS2 to the Beatles' (Yay) "Girl," which I used to not care for but now adore. It was perfect as the opening to Across the Universe.
-
BOS6 Beatles (yay), "Girl". Is John taking a long drag on a joint? what is that sound?
-
Haha! BOS3 to "Flowers on the Wall." And with that, I'm off to work.
-
BOS6 Beatles (yay), "Girl". Is John taking a long drag on a joint? what is that sound?
That's what I assume they were going for.
-
Another BOS for the Statler Brothers, who probably didn't appear on the pop charts for any other song, if I'd have to guess. A very Moreyesque set, and I mean that in a good way.
-
OMG! "Flowers on the Wall"!! uber-BOS7 the Statler Bros. Brilliant lyric, really.
"Playin' solitaire til' dawn
with a deck of 51"
Get it??
-

I never felt that. I think it's more of a sigh, like "wow, that Girl is really gear".
-
appropriate that the Moodies led into the Beatles, since their big break was getting to open for them on the US tour.

wait, John smoked pot??
I think he was sucking in his breath, b/c you know , the girl took his breath away. He was savoring her girliness.
-

except that Dave was rather country-phobic, whereas AL has no qualms about playing the stuff.
-
over at 10:28. wow that was short.
-

"Playin' solitaire til' dawn
with a deck of 51"
Get it??
Well, I thought so, but it's brilliance never really struck me. Does it mean something other than pointlessly wasting your time in a hopeless pursuit?
-
BOS8 the Spoonful. I *DO* believe!
damn those short '60s tunes!
-
HM to two hot blond TV chicks: Barbara Eden and Elizabeth Montgomery.

A deck has 52 cards -- so he's not playing with a full deck, har har.
-
didn't Davey Jones do a version of Girl? What year? Performed on TV Brady Bunch me thinks too.

Davy's was not the same "Girl":

And indeed, the #4 "Flowers on the Wall" was the only Top 40 hit for the Statler Bros., who were neither Statlers nor brothers.
-
PS: Alicat, was great to see you back here in real-time. How are things going? I hope the new year is off to a good start for you. And the rest of you!

nice one, one of the many Brady high points, although what a boring recording studio! What was Sherwood Schwartz thinking?! no glass coffee tables or mirrors, no groupies (except for a poncho-ed Marcia, but she didn't seem up to the task -- in that clip anyhow -- Jan would've been game, I bet).
