one of the worst years on the wheel in the Morey era; make it different, AL!
ETA: Pink Floyd is not an auspicious start...
-
Pink Floyd (Roger Waters?)
forget the song name, but I like it
-
WOS "Learning to Fly." Not a bad song, but an awful choice as TOTHK.
-
A far better selection for Tune #2: my favorite Depeche Mode song, "Never Let Me Down Again."
-
BOS1 DM, wearing the trousers.
-
this DM song soars
-
Lots of good forgotten pop and R&B in '87 that Dave always ignored. I'd LURVE to hear "Talk Dirty To Me" by Poison. Or some Samantha Fox. And PLEASE -- no Grateful Dead.
-
VHM Wings of Desire
WOS Hiatt -- does he have to show up in every late-'80s set?

Agreed. Have a little energy, dude!
-
i was wondering what that movie clip was. Wings Of Desire - I recall liking the movie, but I think it might seem dated and pretentious if I saw it again.

this John Hiatt is so Bruce Hornsby/Marc Cohn/John Hiatt-y

Just me, or does this U2 song foretell Queensryche's "Silent Lucidity"?

still better than the Nic Cage/Meg Ryan remake/"reimagining" called City of Angels. Nic is no Bruno Ganz.

never thought of it before, but there is a similarity. I prefer Bono to the Queensryche guy.

that's possible, but I like Red Hill Town waaaay better.. Lurve this album!

I recall Udo Kier was in that, too, right? That dude has some blue eyes, boy howdee.

from wikipedia:
"I Want Your (Hands On Me)" debuted in May 1988 on (MTV's 12O Minutes), featuring a rap interlude by MC Lyte. This song was featured in the horror film A Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master.
no rap here.. :(
-
First MJ appearance of 2010. Nice retro frivolity, HM from me.
-
OMGWTFLOL! BOS3 an MJ bustout (and about f--ing time!): "The Way You Make Me Feel"

It was common for rap-song collabs 1987-91 to have both rap and rap-free versions, since some adult pop stations outright banned rap. I remember that happening with Maxi Priest's #1 hit "Close to You."

yeah, BOS from me, too.
Is the video for this the sorta embarrassing one where he's posturing all tough-style for some hair chick?

I didn't figure out until last nite (!) that Father Maxi on South Park is a play on Maxi Priest. Duh!

I think you just described a half-dozen MJ vids. ;)

Nic is no Bruno Ganz.
see my post just now in the Funny Stuff thread

Nobody puts AL in a corner!
(thank gawd we avoided Medley/Warnes in favor of Echo -- BOS4 "Lips Like sugar")
-
BOS Bunnymen!
& belated BOS's for the Mode & MJ & Sinead. Was listening in the living room.
-
Nic is no Bruno Ganz.

BOS Lips Like Sugar --
cow-orker saw Echo & TB in November when they played the Ocean Rain album at the Fox Theater. Of course they played this, their biggest hit, as part of the second set. I saw them on their Flowers tour. I only wish I was more into them waaaay back in the day, their songs are fabu...

BOS Gregory Peck!
and a nifty segue into "Time Stand Still" from Annalisa. BOS #5 Rush. And to preempt Mike, no willfully obscure lyrics in this one.
-
BOS to the anti-Bork ad. We dodged a bullet with that one, eh?
-
yay Gregory Peck dissing Robert Bork!!
-

Indeed, "I'm not looking back, but I want to look around me now" has always stuck with me as a nice line.

no matter -- it's still Geddy making dogs' ears explode. ;) Tho' the female singer is a nice touch.
-
Brass Monkey = biggest bustout of 2010 so far.
-
BOS5 Beasties! another bustout: "Brass Monkey", that funky monkey junkie.
-
i like how Aimee Mann's voice is lower than Geddy's.
BOS to RUSH, dudes!
Today's Tom Sawyer gets high on you, bro.
-
yay Gregory Peck dissing Robert Bork!!
I'm sure I mentioned this before, but it bears repeating in this context. Back when Dennis Miller had his brief stint on MNF, ESPN ran a Tuesday column annotating his various obscure references. One time Miller name dropped John Facenda, from all those great NFL Films features (he was the one who gave us "the frozen tundra of Lambeau Field"). The annotation explained this and closed with the quip: ...and thus Facenda earned the nickname 'the Voice of God'. God, however, thinks He sounds like Gregory Peck.
-
Removing that love with that machine again. Always a BOS for the Cult.
-
BOS5 Beasties! another bustout: "Brass Monkey", that funky monkey junkie.
and an artist bustout at that.
-
BOS6 the Cult. If this isn't the best '87 set evah, it's def in the top 5.
-
HM to the Cult, "Love Removal Machine." Funny how all of Keith Richards' riffs since '82 have sounded like this.
-
BOS5 Beasties! another bustout: "Brass Monkey", that funky monkey junkie.

Dave didn't play "Fight For Your Right" once? I'd've sworn.

If Dave did, it predates the Db. And the Db is not up to date for Annalisa's tenure, but you might be right.

BOS's to Depeche Mode, John Hiatt, and Sinead. VHM to Echo & the Bunnymen and U2.
& holy crap, that Beastie Boys song annoys the hell out of me but I had no idea it was from 1987. I would have guessed mid-90s. For being that kind of a song, it does seem quite a bit ahead of its time now, so no WOS for today.
