Title: 16 Nov 2009: 1967!
Post by: RGMike on November 16, 2009, 10:03:33 AM
AL's feeling better, and the Fab Four are "Getting Better".

It's Getting Better when we go back this far!

One of my favorite Beatle songs, and one of Paul's catchiest pop tunes.

Man I was mean but I'm changing my scene...

BOS1 Beatles (yay!); BOS2 Jackie Wilson's sublime Higher and Higher. One for Dave.

another nod to Dave with "H&H" -- another one AL's played before.  I'm a bit concerned with how often she repeats herself; everyone's entitled to a Katrina or 2 but stiil...

BOS Brenton Wood -- farfisa with soul!

This tune has popped into my head over the years a lot, but I never really knew who sang it!

another bustout.

Winwood's voice was both recognizable and almost completely unrecognizable at the same time, if that makes any sense.

...or should I say "Do you know what I mean?"

Exceedingly great set today.

uber-UBER BOS7 "Let it ALL hang out"!  like Dylan meets Roger Miller.

Indeed, the Hombres have attributed the song's origins to hearing Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues," deciding he was putting kids on and cobbling together their own semisensical stream of consciousness in response.

BTW, there are other JA songs I deeply dislike.  "How Do You Feel," "Spare Chaynge" and "Wild Turkey" are chief among them.

seriously, I'm curious why you dislike "Best Friend", given its general sunshine-poppiness (and Mamas-and-Papiness).

The lyrics seem to have taken 7 minutes to write, and that's with editing.

As for "Spare Chaynge" - long instrumentals put me to sleep if I can't dance to them.  (See also: "Oh Well.")

No one bit, but all three contain 'three o'clock' in the lyrics.  I thought using "Rock Around the Clock" would've given it away.

Well, I guess I'm just reacting as a bass player.  Jack Casady does some of the most amazing shit on Spare Chanynge.  I realize it's not fit for public consumption in 2009.
