Big hair, both on the head and on the chin. ZZTop is dressin' sharp for the TOTHK.

BOS to TFF's original "Mad World."  I actually think Gary Jules improved on it by turning it into a ballad, but this is still great to hear.

November '83 was quite depressing: I saw Testament in a theater and a week later The Day After on TV.

BOS2 TFF's orig "Mad World".

High...high-high-high-high-H-I-I-I-I-G-H!!!!

BOS1, THeads, Swamp.

Saw them perform this at the SF Civic (now Bill Graham Civic) about a year before Speaking In Tongues came out. Much grittier than what they'd done before.

TANC Mad World: finally saw Donnie Darko on Saturday. Two thumbs up. And VHM for the song.

did you see the orig or the "director's cut"? I've heard the latter is a disappointment; but that given Richard Kelly's output since, that's not surprising.

Gaz! TANC: "Love is a Cattlefield"

hey urth, great avatar. Love that album.  Wiki confirms that the other Faces played on (I Know I'm) Losing You.
Will you be in SF on Nov 12th by any chance?  Ray Davies will be at the Warfield!

I didn't figure it would be. Who on earth poses Gere as a love interest for Swank? The Gere/dog flick looks better.

Sweet, my favorite year!  8)

VHM to TFF. (Only reason it's not a BOS is because I like Pale Shelter so much better.)

and LOL @ Pat Benatar.  Oh well, it had to happen sometime.

Pretty good tune, though it does kind of remind me of the Rutles, not that there's anything wrong with that.

I assume it was the original--got it via Netflix, and I don't recall there being any "director's cut" tags appended to it when I put it in our queue.  Man, Jake Gyllenhaal sure looked young, but I guess that was the idea.

BOS2 China. One of the early songs that I associate with MTV.

And BOS2 to The Cure!  I don't hear this one that often. (Though for some reason, it was always playing at Starbucks a few years ago...)

Red Rockers' "China" flashed me back to a spring day that year; I was standing in Canal Jeans in Soho and they had WNEW-FM on in the store, playing this song. Nothing other than that, just a moment in time. BOS4.

and BOS5 the Cure. "i saw you looked like a Japanese baby" -- er, wha??

ah yes, I must be dancing on the lunatic fringe this AM.  nyuk nyuk
I think it's the cup of Blue Bottle Coffee I got.

Speaking of Red Rider, a friend of a friend was paired with Tom Cochrane in some celebrity Golf tourney.  I'm sure the "fringe" jokes were flying!

BOS3 to The Cure -- Walk  (btw, the Cure's album Mixed Up contains a pretty great remix of this song, with some kick-some-booty heavy bass.)

Probably not likely for me to be in town then, damnitall. But I'll be curious to hear about that show--one of only three he's got booked in the States, and the other two are in NYC. Have you heard about his latest album? It's re-recorded versions of Kinks classics done with a 65-voice choir. Hoping he's not touring with all of them!

Right, though I had to look it up to figure that out.  I never saw it, but it's got an amazing cast: Matt Dillon, Dennis Hopper (in that clip), Tom Waits, Mickey Rourke...the list goes on.

Flank steak to flank steak, we stand!

apparently somebody actually wrote an entire parody:

Quote
We are cows, Jerseys and Holsteins, we moo
Grazing the grass, lots of poo
Love in a cattle field
There are bulls, they are so big and so strong
Hoping that they will respond
All of us having, love in a cattle field

You're sittin’ on that stool, you're milkin’ me dry
Why do you hurt my udders, it’s just making me cry
Do I make you shake, or are you making me into steak
Believe me, believe me, I don’t give a darn
But I'm trapped by the fence, and I'm kept in the barn

We are cows, Jerseys and Holsteins, we moo
Grazing the grass, lots of poo
Love in a cattle field
There are bulls, they are so big and so strong
Hoping that they will respond
All of us having, love in a cattle field

We're losing the herd
Will you just chew your cud or mount me from behind
And when I get too old, I’m put out to pasture
Just take care of our calves
I’m more than just a heifer, a special bovine
And if you just look and see, I’m not a mad cow

We are cows, Jerseys and Holsteins, we moo
Grazing the grass, lots of poo
Love in a cattle field
There are bulls, they are so big and so strong
Hoping that they will respond
All of us having, love in a cattle field

It's not in the DB, so odds are DM never pulled it out, but I think AL may have in one of the previous visits she's made to '83 (or a "chartbusters" set). Must look.

Nope Nope Nope.

I reqested it from Dave for "Strictly Instrumental" and never got it; requested it again from AL for her "Wordless Wednesday" and so I'd like to think she filed it away for future ref.

And sadly it wouldn't qualify for "chartbusters" since it never made the Top 40, iirc. I wanna say it was actually from '82, tho'...

I stand corrected--checked thru the two other 83 sets since AL took the reins, and no Rockit. But AMG sez it was released in '83, and all chart action is dated the same (#71 on the Hot 100, but #6 on the R&B Singles chart).

I think it was the standard, album mix. I don't remember anything that caught my ear about it.
