we've hit every decade this week, so I'm guessing a theme? "Funny Friday" again, perhaps?
Nope, but I'm happy to be wrong -- ya don't mess around with AL!

VHM JC; BOS EJ.
-
You Don't Mess Around With Jim didn't strike me as a great TOTHK, although it was a bustout. Digging EJ though. Def. takes me back to Sept of '72.
-
Is this the TOP horns on Honky Cat, or just some session cats?
ETA: AMG says the latter. Never mind that -- I'm gonna see TOP and AWB tonight! So get the funk out ma face!
-
and Leon's getting LAAAAAAAAAAAAAARGER! BOS2 "Tightrope"
-

Session cats--or rather, chats du session, as they all seem to be French. Noted when looking this up that Jean Luc Ponty played violin on this album, too.
-
I can give a VHM to each of the first three songs, but as all three are pianoo based I'm ready for some Guitars!
and fwiw, in the interest of historical accuracy, gasoline was still around $0.32/gal in 1972, not $0.55/gal.It didn't double until after the Yom Kippur War in '73, and Yom Kippur is in October.
-
still more pianos!
-
Wait.. you could play Pong for 25 cents in an arcade in 72? That's what AL said.
hmmm, we'll have to cq that.

But this is some "Honky Cat"-esque piano on Nilsson's "Let the Good Times Roll".

Yom Kippur is in October.

an ATBB, in fact. iirc, this was the B-side of "Jump Into The Fire".
-
BOS2 Day After Day. (The Nilsson tune kinda left me cold, for some reason.)
Btw, Day After Day has been played several times before, but outside of once as the '72 entry in a VT, this is its first appearance in '72. Four times in '71 though, and once in '73 (?!?).
-
"Day after Day" still sounds good. Pretty good piano and very Harrison-esque slide guitar lead.
-
Eek, what is this horrible movie?
ETA: Yay!!!! TOP's beautiful "You're Still a Young Man". BBOS!
-
BOS2 the original Heartbreak Kid -- Charles Grodin rules. And Jeannie Berlin -- did she ever make another movie?
Speak of the TOP horns and they shall appear!

You're still a young man, baby.

for shame, bub -- rent it sometime. Wonderful, wonderful stuff.

heh, I don't recall Heartbreak Kid, but I do like Grodin. can you imagine Jeannie Berlin and Sandy Dennis co-starring in a movie? What a whine-fest that would make.

I could play it in an arcade for 25 cents in late 73, that I remember

yeah, leave it to George to play a Harrison-esque guitar ;)

Well, all right, but it was awfully unpleasant to listen to.

heh, as if Mike was not reliable enough, wiki confirms that George plays some slide guitar. And Leon Russell tickles the ivories.
-
BOS Stones. Now this is what I'm talking about. Everything else has been swell, but I need a little ooomph in my Friday!
-
Is this bank robbery clip the one that spawned Dog Day Afternoon?

agree. BOS2 for All Down The Line. Excellent slide guitar on this one, too. And that dirty opening riff is top-notch.
-

she was correct: Pong debuted in North American in 72. Never question the AL!

Obscure T-Rex? Don't know this one.
It hit #2 on the charts, but it was a stand alone single, not an album release.

And appeared once before on 10@10, to my surprise--I'd have pegging this as a bustout.

Speak TOP's name...and TOP shall appear. BOS3.
You're still a young man, baby.
On the replay, I'm really struck by that great little crack in Lenny's voice when he sings, "when a man comes to you / with his little heart in his hands." Teddy Pendergrass could muster half as much nuance in his testifying.

BOS to Tower of Power
Song I'd love to hear in a 1972 10@10 but probably won't:
"My Ding-A-Ling" by Chuck Berry.

1972 is a toughie for this category - most of what I'd want to hear are de facto 10@10 candidates. Actually, that would be true for almost any year before that as well.
