Title: 25 Sept 2009: 1972!
Post by: RGMike on September 25, 2009, 09:45:54 AM
we've hit every decade this week, so I'm guessing a theme? "Funny Friday" again, perhaps?

Nope, but I'm happy to be wrong -- ya don't mess around with AL!

You Don't Mess Around With Jim didn't strike me as a great TOTHK, although it was a bustout. Digging EJ though. Def. takes me back to Sept of '72.

Session cats--or rather, chats du session, as they all seem to be French.  Noted when looking this up that Jean Luc Ponty played violin on this album, too.

I can give a VHM to each of the first three songs, but as all three are pianoo based I'm ready for some Guitars!

and fwiw, in the interest of historical accuracy, gasoline was still around $0.32/gal in 1972, not $0.55/gal.It didn't double until after the Yom Kippur War in '73, and Yom Kippur is in October.

BOS2 Day After Day. (The Nilsson tune kinda left me cold, for some reason.)

Btw, Day After Day has been played several times before, but outside of once as the '72 entry in a VT, this is its first appearance in '72. Four times in '71 though, and once in '73 (?!?).

heh, I don't recall Heartbreak Kid, but I do like Grodin.  can you imagine Jeannie Berlin and Sandy Dennis co-starring in a movie?  What a whine-fest that would make.

On the replay, I'm really struck by that great little crack in Lenny's voice when he sings, "when a man comes to you / with his little heart in his hands."  Teddy Pendergrass could muster half as much nuance in his testifying.

1972 is a toughie for this category - most of what I'd want to hear are de facto 10@10 candidates. Actually, that would be true for almost any year before that as well.
