anything but "Lola". Or Hotlegs.

JB like a Sex Machine! Get UP-ah! BOS.
I used to like to sing this around the house and to my kids, but I always had to say "lovin' machine" instead of "sex machine".

"Get up-ah" JINX. Just for that, you have to taste James' organ. Ewww. Hit it and quit!
-
BOS to "Make Me Smile," despite the muddy production. One of the very best horn charts I've ever heard.
-
BOS2 Chicago, makin' me smile.
-
BOS for Traffic and JB so far.
and from Bob Hope's singer, it sounds like Agnew was the Joe Biden of his day, except in the opposite direction...
-
BOS to "Make Me Smile," despite the muddy production.
I know! sounds like it's underwater... too bad...
One of the very best horn charts I've ever heard.
thank you James Pankow!

I was thinking exactly the same thing -- the bandwidth on this is pitiful. Is this the best that it gets, or is this a bad version of it?

JB like a Sex Machine! Get UP-ah! BOS.
The way I like it, is the way it is. I got money. Don't worry about his.
So the sex machine had to pay for sex???

Miles: Say "what the fuck."... If you can't say it, you can't do it.
Miles: Thing this Joel, I don't HAVE to pay for sex.

I've always heard that line as "I got MINE, don't worry about his."

Er... no. Biden runs off at the mouth in a harmless way. Agnew was a right-wing hitman, reading speeches written by Pat Buchanan. BIG difference.
first AT40 double-up: Sugarloaf.

Kinda reminds me of Edgar Winter's "Free Ride". Great song, but the drums in particular are really compressed.

Jimmy Guercio (Chicago's producer for their first half-dozen or so records) was not exactly George Martin. I'd hope they've done some remixes on their early records by now, but I don't know for sure.

You beat me too it, this set has already given me a whole pile of things to respond to, and that was the one I momentarily forgot.

Me too, and "mine" makes infinitely more sense.
-
And speaking of crappy mixes, I give you Freda Payne, gettin' none on her honeymoon.

Must've been, "I've got mine, ah, don't worry about his."
There's definitely an extra syllable in there.
-
And speaking of crappy mixes, I give you Freda Payne, gettin' none on her honeymoon.
"a saga of wedding-night impotence" as Robert Christgau once wrote.

harpsichord solos RULE!
-
And the BOSes just keep coming! I Think I Love You, BOS4 or 5 (lost count).
And a big 10@10 RIP to the late Larry Knechtel, who I'm pretty sure is on keyboards on this track.
-
ITILY is a year specific bustout, having only appeared before in a VT.
-
Hey! Hwoi think hwoi love yew!
Some of the "Rasty* Women" in the LSJUMB sang a version of this entitled "I Think I'm Pregnant". Funny.
* a contraction of "rude" and "nasty".
-
"Do you think I have a case?"
Mike, I'm sure Dan Ingram had a response to that ...
-
"I want you to hold it between your knees"
-
I want you to hold it between your knees.
pre-emptive jinx, just in case.
-
"Do you think I have a case?"
Mike, I'm sure Dan Ingram had a response to that ...
"a little pennicillin'll clear that right up, David"
Ingram also consistently called the song "Wah Think I Love You" for it's entire chart run.
-
Almost a triple jinx on the "knees" line.

Damn, Jack's got a menacing way about him.
-
BOS whatever James Gang, with the awesome bass line.
ETA: as my brother the bass player once demonstreated, if you play this on your car stereo & turn the ballance all the way to the one side, all you hear is the bass. And it RAWKS!
-
BOS for the James Gang, keepin' the funk going.
-
"Do you think I have a case?"
Mike, I'm sure Dan Ingram had a response to that ...
Yes, but I'm sure you can get a shot that will take care of it. <rimshot>
BOS5 to Funk #49, and the first repeat from the Drive's earlier '70 set.
-
BOS Joe Walsh
Hold chicken salad between your knees and it will soon smell like Funk 49.
-
BOS4/proxy of Alicat: Neil

BOS6 Neil & the Horse, When You Dance I Can Really Love.
are they on this LP?
-
BOS4/proxy of Alicat: Neil
This gets my overall BOS vote, if I ever bothered to register it.
-
I don't think we've had a bustout yet, but the Neil is only in the Db once, the James Gang only twice, and the Traffic thrice.
there, I've said it.

LOL, that was your cue, Mike. What's that line Gaz used about himself the other day? It's good to be in a place where he can be so irreverent and yet so predictable?
-

You know you wanted to.
And a lovely break from the noise with "Into the Mystic".

BOS5 Van the Man.

BOS Joe Walsh
Hold chicken salad between your knees and it will soon smell like Funk 49.
A serious question: Did the James Gang have funks 1 through 48? Or was #49 an arbitrary number?
-
"Look at that! Look at the flares going out from it, look at that corona!"
I thought he was doing play by play at a 1970 fashion show. :)

I don't know if all numbers are represented, but there is a "Funk 48" which sounds rather similar, but isn't as good.

they did record Funk 48, but not sure about nos 1-47.
-
Uber BOS, Jimmy Cliff, another year specific bustout, though it appeared in many MLK sets.
pretty sure this is tune #10, nice way to go out.
-
BOS6 Jimmy Cliff, a nice nod to Dave -- one of his faves

Slightly off-topic but nonetheless: I wanna know what's up with all the movies out now with "9" in the title. You've got 9, District 9, and I believe there's one other that's not in wide release.

indeed, there's a German movie called Cloud 9 and in Dec we're getiing Nine (the film of the B'way musical). And of course in QT's IB, Hitler says "nein! nein! nein! nein! nein!"

OMG! this CAN'T just be a coincidence!
You know what the say, once is a Coincidence, twice is a Conspiracy, three times is Enemy Action.

BONUS TRACK: Band of Gypsies - Them Changes (RIP Jimi Hendrix 9/18/70)
Glad to see the Partridges win BOS and here's another Dave-vs-AL observation: as much as I loved Dave and appreciated the off-the-wall stuff he occasionally dredged up, it always seemed to me there was a lot of other stuff he was afraid to play. I think Dave was basically a non-confrontational soul, and he really dreaded having to deal with complaining Fogheads saying this, that, or another song "doesn't belong on 10@10"-- and justifiably, as there was a time when playing ABBA made the phones light up with complaints. (I've already told the story about the obnoxious guy who called him up to say "Soul Patrol SUCKS!!").
AL, on the other hand, isn't afraid of anybody, I don't think.
-
AL, on the other hand, isn't afraid of anybody, I don't think.
I think if she gets a complainer she just whacks them across the brow with that giggle of hers and they disappear.
I mean, do you think station mgmt would have actually preapproved "Ca Plane Pour Moi"?
