Title: 17 August 2009--it's 1977
Post by: urth on August 17, 2009, 10:05:38 AM
...a really long commercial break--I'm starting to hear repeats on all of the ads on the stream. Did they forget to go back to the live signal for 10@10?

(Btw, this Boost Mobile ad is pretty dumb.)

Yes and yes.  WTF?  8+minutes of commercials?

This is getting ridiculous -- it's gotta be a computer glitch. The economy's not good enuf for them to be selling 10 minutes of ads.  Funny, the "now playing" ticker says "USTA", which is the commercial playing right now  -- the commercials never show up there. Major snafu!!

Yes and yes.  WTF?

Geoff is the only one of us to regularly listen to the over-the-air broadcast...guess we're stuck until someone in the studio realizes we've got a problem here.

Can one of y'all in the Bay area call the studio and tell them what's up...I can't call the 800 # as I'm not in their selected range of area codes.

surely AL's figured out by now that something's wrong --  how hard can it be to turn the damn thing off?  It's like War Games!  or Colossus!   I for one welcome our automated overlords!

Well, the Sound is playing Zep's Trampled Under Foot, so methinks they're in '75. Not a bad alternative in the meantime.

Ms Armatrading shows some emotion. Unlike computers.

the third song, which was NTM and I didn't necessarily care for, might be a lesser cut from some superstar.  I get the feeling that some here are going to regret missing it.

Manly yes! but I like it too!

BOS EC, Mr Oswald, and the swastika tattoo.

Speaking of -- what was with the reverse swastikas in Woodstock --

Jorma had one on a chain around his neck, and someone else had one on the back of his jacket. WTF?

Curious what that song in the #3 slot was, and would have liked to hear the MTB song--Larry played Green Grass and High Tides over on the Sound, which fills the same category for a different year. Other than that the Sound has been pretty Morey-esque; right now we're hearing Wish You Were Here. I'll jump back over to hear the backsell if nothing else.

Nothing like promos for failed series! San Pedro Beach Bums  -- think that lasted, what, a month tops?

AL's still doing herself proud digging out promos for old TV shows--I can't say I have any recollection of The San Pedro Beach Bums. (Perhaps Mike Watt and D. Boon before they got into the Minutemen?)

VHM I Wish, but this set is sounding kinda Morey-esque, too, save for the MTB.

Crap! Yes, you are right about that--Mixed Up Shook Up Girl is a great tune. Def worth seeking out the first Mink DeVille record if you haven't heard it (which sounds like it's the case).

I have to say in my defense (somewhat) that I heard this song while I was negotiating SF street traffic on my bike, AND my headphones crapped out and were only supplying one channel...  so I (literally?) heard only half the song.  I will say penance and then check the record out for reals!

eager to find out what, besides the Mink DeVille, might've been bustouts.  Gawd knows the Babys, Stevie, Bowie and Pablo Cruise were not.  Iggy, perhaps?
