HEY JUDE!

I just watched Across the Universe again the other morning.  That movie is emotionally manipulative in all the right ways.

You're not scooting in a Mustang, are you?

Geoff, you must be at least a couple minutes ahead of the stream. I was reading this while the Quicksilver tune was still playing here.

I liked that movie, too.  I was in the Lower Easy Side one summer and saw Joe Cocker filming his bit. The production crew turned the intersection of Rivington and Clinton Streets in multicolored hippie haven.

OK, who's this sockin' it to us? Nice bass part, but the song isn't really taking off yet. They shoulda studied James Brown a little closer.

ETA: Just struck me: Country Joe & the Fish?

Looks like we may have a consensus!

Not to mention the second bustout of the set (after the Quicksilver). Up 'til now all we ever heard from CJ&F is the Feel Like I'm Fixin' To Die Rag.

And now to show us how it's done: JB himself!  (Ironically, with a mostly if not entirely white children's chorus.)

DAMN! BOS2 MLK; BOS3 Rascals.

Almost another bustout--this one only showed up once before, representing '68 in a VT. Otherwise, it's almost all about See for the Rascals.

get the gun!   Still a stunning clip -- no Tom Clay necessary. But following with the Tempts "Wish it Would rain" is fabulous, giving me chills.  A very Morey segue. BOS5

ETA: and we keep cryin' with Mr Chilton.

BOS Tempts.  Had I been around in '68, I would have been crushed by RFK's killing.

I was listening in the car when the Country Joe track came on, and went wild!  I was wondering if any of you would know this song.  When I called up AL to BOS, she thanked me profusely!  Killer track, with a dripping sense of simultaneous respect, sarcasm, and joy!

definitely BBOS, Best Bass Of Set

It was NTM, and CJ&tF got lots of prog-FM airplay in NYC back in the day.

Just listening to the replay, and the MLK snippet is from one of my favorite sermons of his, the Drum Major Instinct.  It's long, but if you're in the mood someday, and have access to it, check it out.
