oh boy
sounds like Leonard Nimoy doing a Y2K List
-
Did I hear that right? 1999? We haven't even been to '98 yet, and we've only hit '97 once...
Still, I'll give her the benefit of the doubt, for a few songs anyway.
Jeez, I believe this is Loudon Wainwright III rappin' about Y2K! Annalisa's first Narada!

Holy crap! so much for the 10-year limit! I'll be happy with anything that *wasn't* a KFOG staple, but I've got no expectations here.
was Dandy Warhols' "Bohemian Like You" from '99?
-
i thought Spock was from the future, couldn't he just tell us what was going to happen? what's with this all this "might" "may" "could"
feh...

damn, it *is* LW3. I'm guessing Rosalie may have played this on Acoustic Sunrise, tho'. She likes him. That gets a BOS.
And Moby w/Gwen Stefani gets a WOS -- one of the most annoying records of the last 10 years.
-
Wow, I had no idea it had been 10 years since this Moby & Gwen song.
I always liked it, but expect I'm in the minority.
-
Where was I in 1999? I don't recall ANY of these. I was probably only listening to 10@10 pre 1989...
-

Dude, the last 10 years have just freakin' FLOWN by. My ex-boss pointed out on FB yesterday that in six months the "oughts" are gonna be over. Done. Fini. That just blows my mind.

yup. ;) In fairness, I just got incredibly sick of it -- this was one of KFOG's "we're trying to be younger and hipper" phases, and they just played this song to DEATH.
-
Hey, I'll give Annalisa major props for digging up this Sinead Lohan song.
BOS #1

I'd like to hear something from Hole's Celebrity Skin, I think it stradled 98-99.

I think this is one that KFOG was playing in '99. I remember hearing it and I was in SF by then, so I wasn't listening to Sacramento radio anymore.
Props to you for coming up with her name--I couldn't have told you who this was.
-
this is about the only song I recognize hearing, if still unidentifiable.
-

Funny: KFOG played this at the time, but it's apparently not in the computer anymore, if the "just played" thingy is any measure.
But Fatboy Slim, which I don't think KFOG played, is showing up. Weird. This is a Live 105 song, to me.

This is on my MP3 player & the last time it came up I made it repeat about 5 times.
BOS #2 Fatboy Slim. One of the coolest videos evah!

BOS - Praise You

was Dandy Warhols' "Bohemian Like You" from '99?
Don't know about the Warhols, but I think Santana/Rob Thomas piece of shite Smooth was drilling into our earholes in '99. Also Mambo #5, which wouldn't be too terrible.
-
could one of you young folk do a summary so far of these unrecognizable songs?
-
*swoon*
(http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_SHj1lk_e2XQ/SOIxCNqHJVI/AAAAAAAAF28/J8j5hsw2J8w/s400/JFK_Jr_2.jpg)
BOS2 Bruce Cockburn, Superchunk, and the Friends of Dean Martinez.

"Smooth" was end of '99/beginning of '00.
It's left field, but what I'd like to hear is Paula Cole's "I Believe in Love." Or, hell, even Cher's "Believe" would be amusing.

A couple minutes ago the player said Tom Waits Hold On was next up, and now it says Old 97s Murder or a Heart Attack (ack-ack-ack-ack) is on deck. I'd love to hear either--MoaH is a pretty catchy song.
ETA: OK, here's the Waits tune. BOS potential here.

I was young at the time ...
PS: It's a cold rain in NYC today. Feels like Seattle in winter. :(

If we get thru this without anything from that Santana album, I'll be impressed. But hey -- Cher's "Believe" is from '99!
-
If I had a rocket launcher, I prob would have blown up half these tunes.
-
Liking Tom Waits
-

Cher JINX!!
BOS3 Tom Waits, tho' I don't recall hearing this on the radio then.
-
finally, a song I know and like! BOS Tom Waits Hold On
great song
-
Liking Tom Waits
Me too. Saw him in the summer of 99 from second row seats at the Paramount. Truly amazing.
I think REM had an album in '99 too--Up?
-

it was rare, but definitely played on KFOG
-
I know Tom Waits is sacrosanct, but this song is booooooooring.

anyone who knows the titles of anything before Tom Waits!

Was that the album with "Daysleeper"? R.E.M. also had the Man on the Moon soundtrack, but that might have been '00.
-
I had no interest in seeing Fight Club til about '05 and I was impressed.
-
BOS4 Fight Club!!
so, the MGM lion is AL's "movie" signal.
VHM Old '97s.
-
And here's the 97s, and a song about losing his girlfriend's cat. Little piece of ear candy. BOS2.
-
Mr Laura Dern, "Burn to Shine"

Yep, that's the one. It was released in 98, but Lotus, the second single, charted in 99, on both the mainstream rock and modern rock charts. If that counts for anything.
-
HM to Ben Harper's "Burn to Shine" - I interviewed him just before this album came out; my first artist interview - but no BOS votes for this set.

Ah yes - I remember liking "Lotus" at the time and thinking it should've been the lead single. But I haven't heard either tune in the 10 years since.

Old 97's, this is ("Til You Come Home Again")? good pop tune

got heavy KFOG play then. And almost none since.
-
Damnit -- I missed Cockburn? Meh. What's playing now (after Harper)? It's not familiar one bit.
-
No clue who or what this song after the Ben Harper tune is. Kinda catchy, but another Narada in my book.
-
Ah, good call on Santana. Did he just say "I'm trying to penetrate the listener"? So wonderful that it's not one of the crappy tracks that were on the radio at the time. This one is great, and totally never heard before.
-
Uh-oh--this is Carlos Santana speaking. Cue the Smoooth...wait, no! Not sure what song this is, but I don't think it's that one. Have we been spared?
ETA: YESSSSS!
-
Must be "(Da Le) Yaleo". http://www.amazon.com/Supernatural-Santana/dp/B00000J7J4/ref=pd_sim_m_4
Featuring... nobody but Carlos. Nice. I take that back -- nice piano solo before his guitar solo. One thing I hate about today's "download the single now as an MP3 or AAC file" culture -- no fucking liner notes, specifically for musician credits.
Goddamn lazy music companies (also Apple/Amazon) should embed that info in the file itself. There's a place for notes, you know.
-
it's been swell; heading off to Serramonte Farmer's Market. I'll see the list later!
-
I'll BOS the Santana, I guess.
Aside: In case I'm not the only one interested in this chartwatch, Mraz's "I'm Yours" holds at #33 in its 61st chart week. In terms of Hot 100 chart longevity, it's now in the top 5. Outside chance of seeing some chart history in the coming weeks.

And as soon as this is done I gotta start packing up to go sell cheese at the farmer's market in McMinnville! It's Market Day here at the 10@10Club!
ETA: Outta here! Good luck with the bonus track!

*sigh*
I'm guessing it's a big wedding song this year, and it is June, after all.

he actually said he's trying to "penetrate the next note" -- phew!
dig the song and the one before it, too.

Great set!!
With the exception of LWIII (tacky) or Ben Harper (ZzZzZ), any of the songs could have gotten a BOS from me. Y2K would have been a fine outro/interlude but it seemed like a terrible way to start a set, fortunately she more than made up for it with Moby/Gwen Stefani. I know it was overplayed at the time but it never got old to me and ten years later it's good to see that it has its place in time! ;D (It would have made such a good top of the hour cooker too.)
My next favorites (very close) are Sinead Lohan & Bruce Cockburn.

Me too. And you'll note that I was the only one who liked Moby unreservedly.

Welcome, radical 347! We're snarky and opinionated, but never hateful. We miss Dave, but Annalisa has impressed us greatly in the last 3 weeks. We're geeky and proud of it.

Welcome to the Clubhouse, Radical! Does the 347 refer to the area code? (I'm a former SFer who's now lived in NYC for 6+ years.)
