Enemies: a Love Story is one of the great forgotten films of the last 25 years; he shoulda been Oscar-nommed for that as well as Reversal of Fortune. But his reversal of politial affiliation was unFortune-ate.

His daughter Ali is a TIME editorial-dept. employee whom I see and e-mail with regularly. I had no idea her father was ill.

Interesting bio. That Tony he won for Speed the Plow was opposite Madonna, one of the few time in her acting career she got rave reviews. I had no idea about his 9/11-Republican-ness, so it seems a little late to hold that against him, especially reading that he (like I) got a Master's Degree in Chinese History.
I mean, wtf are the odds of me having that in common with anyone famous?

unfortunately, he made a big deal of it -- spoke at the 2004 GOP convention and praised Bush to the skies. I can understand being shaken up by 9/11 (who wasn't?) and if you lived in NYC even moreso, but someone putting his brain on hold and overlooking everything evil Bush/Cheney did in the intervening years is something that drives me crazy. I lost a longtime friend last year over this sort of thing -- suddenly he was haninging out in cyberspace with Michele Malkin and reading the Weekly Standard and I could not pretend it didn't matter.

I would have been highly pissed if I'd known, it just slipped under my radar. History will be unkind enough to W and his rabid supporters.
