Oh jeez.
Originally aired March 2, 2007, and replayed twice since then, prior to today. Does that make this "classic" a katrina?
(Aside: I notice that Webster is now signing off the morning show at around 9:55.)
-
Oh jeez.
ditto jeez -- this is the 3rd (4th?) time we've heard this set, no? I'd've preferred a 4th (5th) rerun of "horn rock" if we had to hear a moldy oldie.
If we don't get a date-specific set next Friday (either Fri the 13th or Valentines or --ideally -- both) I'm gonna be quite annoyed.
-
I'm sure I missed this set the first time around. Listening while working, prolly won't get to post much.

Seriously? I don't remember it at all.

Wop! Wop! Wop! David insults his Eye-talian fans. And he'll do it again on Casey's Feb '76 countdown tomorrow.

indeed -- a SetTrina, or a KatSet or something. (and there aren't many in this category -- horn rock would be another.) But 4 airings in less than 2 years is a record of some sort.

At least playing a theme set on a Friday is more in keeping with the established "rules"--preferable to hearing 1989 or some s*** like that.

True -- I was fully expecting 1992. But I'd've certainly preferred a Soul Patrol. But I'm guessing maybe this one was popular with Fogheads -- maybe Greg (or whoever) is trying to honor requests while Dave's away.

Like this XTC cut, but generally speaking it's a major katrina
nyuk nyuk

Yay. "Hocus Pocus" just makes me happy!

and neither was Mott the Hoole's "Jerkin' Crocus"
-
It's possible that Hocus Pocus has the distinction of being the song to have appeared in the most different theme sets, with five: Strictly Instrumental, Turkey Day (three different ones), Kaboom 2004, Whistle Rock, and the Harry Potter Magic set. And it's been in one 1973 set.
BOS from me as well.

Jack Black as Curly? Not sure who would be Larry. (Btw, Larry Fine is a distant relation of my wife--he and her grandmother were second cousins.)

BOS2 the oft-mondegreened Games Without Frontiers. She's so popular, my ass.

Black as Curly would be perfect! There was a rumor (shot down recently) that Sean Penn was gonna be Larry

I might do London's Heart radio for "Club Classics" (not as good as CGSS, but passable) or my standby WLNG. Your call -- I'll go wherever you go.
-
Two more BOSes from me: Enz and Beatles. Two of Us is just such a sweet song.

'zackly! that's what we always thought it was... except for the 'my ass' part. :)

I couldn't connect to WLNG last week. What's the link to Heart radio?
HM to "Two of Us." The new boy's got me on my biggest Beatles kick in ages.

well played, urth -- I had to look twice to make sure that wasn't an Mshray post!
-
JEEZUS!!! Whoever's engineering this stepped all over the backsell by starting the Pardo outro a few seconds too soon! Looooo-ser!

That Dave "come over to my house" promo is funnier now.

The studio "engineering" has been poor. This today and the silence days ago.

A new friend that I'm smitten with. It's been a long time since I got really hung up on someone; I'd seriously forgotten how good it feels.

I think if a foghead were to show up at Dave's house now, he should make them a set just for effort. (Of course, he'd probably get a restraining order, too. :) )

Heard the set in my car, enjoyed it because it was a theme set on a Friday, but agree that we will soon need a term for overly repeated sets.
But check this out...as soon as the set ended I flipped over to Channel 104.9 and...HOLEE SHIT!!!...they played the Clash's first UK hit "Police & Thieves"! (apparently for no special reason).
I mean, WOW!
If you don't know the song, AMG review is here. (http://www.allmusic.com/cg/amg.dll?p=amg&sql=33:3ifpxcqjldhe)

2/6/09 - FRIDAY!!!!! A good day for...Whistle Rock!!
1. Wes Cunningham - So it Goes
2. David Bowie - Golden Years
3. Steve Miller - Jungle Love
4. Otis Redding - Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay (BEST OF SET!!)
5. XTC - Generals & Majors
6. Focus - Hocus Pocus
7. Peter Gabriel - Games Without Frontiers
8. Split Enz - Six Months in a Leaky Boat
9. J. Geils Band - Centerfold
10. Beatles - Two of us
BONUS TRACK: Peter, Bjorn & John - Young Folks
The bonus was, iirc, the song that started the whole "whistle rock" conversation on the Morning Show back in 2007 to begin with.
-
I'll applaud the bonus track. But I must note for the record that several months before that "Young Folks" song became a bona fide modern rock hit, someone in the Village Voice office - I think it was then editor David Blum, but I don't know - would whistle that riff at various points for entire workdays. I came to somewhat dread it, while still recognizing it for the earworm it was.
