Dave phones home to 1982 <---earlier thread heading
Based on the teaser I think I can safely predict an ET clip today.
ETA: Either the wrong teaser or Dave just wasn't up for it.

I was gonna predict a '90s set today, so this is actually good news in comparison. Don't forget the annual "spook-tacular" on Friday.
-
I'll be hoping for Culture Club.
PS: date = 27th
-
Hey Gaz, I'm DeepTrackin' between Bob & Dave's sets & they just fired up "Fast Buck Freddie"!!

it's so hard to make that kinda money!
-
uh, guess that promo was wrong -- a VT starting in '66 (!), making it the 2nd mid '60s-to-mid '70s VT in a month! Damn!
-
Good start and RIP for Levi and the other three Tops.
-

And the first one I can recall in like forever that wasn't cued up by a birthday request!
-
Good start and RIP for Levi and the other three Tops.
Friday we got the Faux Tops (the Dells) and now the real thang! BOS "Reach Out".
-
Dave was feelin' low, and the Latino fish wouldn't bite. VHM Music Explosion.

'66 to '75 is for me the perfect capture of rock's most golden period. BOS to Mr. Stubbs and co.

As Dave said, "Let's do a V.T., just cuz its fun"... and I couldn't agree more!
-
Good start and RIP for Levi and the other three Tops.
Duke Fakir's still with us, so RIP -1.
-
Hi Archie! BOS2 "Tighten Up", one of the greatest feel-good singles EVAH.
-
Hi everybody! I'm Archie Bell of the Drells, of Houston, Texas; and we don't only sing, we dance just as good as we want!
(They don't clap so well, though. Still, BOS2.)

Yes! My favorite years, with the possible exception of 67-76. Nicer palindrome too.
-
You know the story that when "Tighten Up" became a hit, Archie Bell had already enlisted in Army, so they got a substitute "Archie Bell" to tour to capitalize on its popularity.
-
BOS3 and proxy of Brett Favre for "Build Me Up, Buttercup."
-
"buttercup" -- more Faux Tops, as it totally rips off "I'll Turn To Stone", melodically. VHM to a great (if overplayed) classic.

Ditto for the Faux Tops bit. I used to think it was them.
-
the looooooooooonnnnnnnnng version!
-
Burton C can spell! Them Canadians are amazing!
I guess this is not a date-specific VT in that these songs were not in the Top Ten *this week in...* these years.
-
the looooooooooonnnnnnnnng version!
Funny thing about this one...I thought it was odd that they were complaining about an American woman when they sounded just as American as you and me. It was years before I knew they were Canucks.

ah yes, one of the best lines ever uttered in the realm of pop music... I quote it often, if only to amuse myself -- it always works!
-
BOS3 Rod the Mod at his loveliest (well, vocally speaking).
-
What I said about "Hey Jude" on Friday goes double for "American Pie" -- once a year is plenty.

Is that it??? I always thought they dance as good as they walk. Now THAT makes sense ;)
ETA: Lyrics sites agree with me, for what it's worth.
-
BOS to Rod - from his best album
-
Am Pie: another looooooooooonnnnnnnnng tune! Thanks Dave

Freakin Cow orker! Schedules a mtg at 10:00 with some vendors & then doesn't show up until 10:25, so I have to cover for him.
That jester is gonna be on the sideline in a cast for sure if he ever does *that* again!

Aren't whiskey and rye the same thing? I need some (and vodka and gin) to get thru "AmPie".
-
Don McLean played a car show in Rio Vista (Sac. Delta) last year, so there really were Chevys on the levee!
-
Marvin gets some. BOS4. This one really was on the charts in Oct '73.

don't think so. I'll chk after my 10:30 mtg -- figuratively speaking, of course.
"we're all sensitive people ... so, LET'S GET IT AWN!"

Rye is a type of whiskey, as is bourbon, Canadian, Irish & Scotch (but those tricky Scots spell it 'whisky' just to be different). In the first half of the 20th century you had to specify rye or bourbon at your average US drinkery. Just watch some old Bogart films if you don't believe me - he always ordered rye.

Probably not Marvin's inspiration for his hit:

Whatsamattawitcha? VHM Redbone.
-

That line actually reads: "Drove my Chevy to The Levee..." which is a now defunct bar in Staten Island or somewhere like that.
-
Speaking of lets get it on, here's RedBONE, Come 'n Git Yer Luv ...
-

Am Pie: another looooooooooonnnnnnnnng tune! Thanks Dave
Made up for all the shorties in there--guessing the first four tunes were no more than 2 min 45 apiece. Digging that Dave called an audible and went for the VT tho. Hope he indulges himself whenever he feels like in his remaining weeks.
