VHM Moodies, "Dear Diary", a onetime Katrina that we haven't heard much lately.
Here's the story behind my well-established affection for the Moodies, and it centers on this song.
When I was about 12 I convinced my folks (mostly my dad) that we really needed a modern stereo system, not the old wooden cabinet all-in-one console that we still had since 1966. There was a midnight sale, and you could get an additional 5% off if you showed up in your pajamas. Not surprisingly my dad was the only one in his pj's but hey, we saved about $15.
So I was just beginning to get some of my own albums, and one of the first was Days of Future Past, because I had always liked "Nights in White Satin" (which you'll recall had charted in 1972,and so was still getting airplay). We were living in a 3-story townhouse and our new neighbors upstairs on the 3rd floor came by one time & the husband saw my DoFP LP and said something complimentary about it to my dad. I said, that's not his record, it's MINE. He laughed and told me to come upstairs anytime I wanted to browse his record collection, and the first thing he did was go upstairs and immediately return with about 5 Moodies LP's. And for some reason "Dear Diary" was the track that made the immediate impression, but I played them all incessantly until he finally asked for them back.

that's a GREAT story -- better than any of the "through the wall" stories the Fogheads told last year.

beg to differ.
Holding my coat and tie apart makes less sense than eating a county pear, and much, MUCH less sense than supposing Jimi was not only gay, but actually coming out publicly in "Purple Haze".
Mondegreens are at their best when they are at their silliest.

Oh, I agree -- silly mondegreens are the best mondegreens. In this case we're talking about a mondegreen in which one option ("county fair") seems quite obviously right (and IS, according to every lyric site) because, well, you *would* go to a county fair in the summertime. But in comparison "county pear" as a phrase doesn't exist in anyone's lexicon. Does that make sense, or am I totally beating a dead horse?
In other words: "county pear" isn't silly enuf to be a good "silly" mondegreen.

hey, that was me who picked the bonus track, Stones "Live With Me"

So is "Holding my coat and tie apart" one of your mondegreens? I can't place it.
Great set today, btw. I got to work late, but my online player had the whole thing buffered -- in fact, I'm listening to it for a second time as we speak! type!
Can't pick just one, but I love that Zep song, always makes me sing along and brings me to the verge of, like, tears or something...

Can we assume that, since we're seeing BOS ties again, Big Rick is no longer replaying the Best of Set tune in the afternoon?

Oh yeah... he stopped doing that a while ago (a year at least, maybe much longer).

So is "Holding my coat and tie apart" one of your mondegreens? I can't place it.
Yep, one I'm semi-famous for around these parts: Thompson Twins "Hold Me Now" contains the line:
"Warm my heart (oh, my cold and tired heart)"
which I confesses to hearing as
"Warm my heart (hold my coat and tie apart)"
