Dave promises to "mix it up a little" this year. Here's hoping.

Here's hoping for King "Love And Pride", but no actual expectation.

I woke up this morning
With my troubles in my hand
I woke up this morning
With my business in my hand
If you can't bring me a woman
Bring me a sissy man ...
Dave's diggin' deep.
-
Just tuned in--first I heard clips of gay-themed songs from the 20s and 30s, then some Stonewall soundbites (all new stuff, iird), and now it's Legalize Our Love (which is def. not new). Not sure how much I missed.
-
I don't care how often we've heard it, I just really love Timbuk3.

Considering we only hear it once a year, I rather like it too--great groove.

Not much really, Dave did a little bit of intro about how he went about the set. The clips from the 20's and 30's started things off.

Well if you looked at Dave's blog you just knew we'd get the Anita Bryant pieface clip.
-
I just remembered a song Dave should play, I forget who did it, but it was called "Jet Boy, Jet Girl" & it was basically the music track of "Ca Plane Pou Moi" with different lyrics.
The repeated part where the original goes "ca plane pour moi" is changed to "he gave me head".

Sounds like when he said "mix it up" he meant with the clips. Outside of the Anita pieface clip, just about everything else has been new. Songs, not so much. VHM Lou Reed, walkin' on the wild side.
ETA: I'm thinking it's important to remember Dave's declaring this set "a labor of love." Mark has speculated in the past that this is a tribute to Dave's partner who passed away from AIDS in '93, and as such I think the songs relate directly to him in some way we can't know. So I hereby retract my kvetching about hearing the same songs every year.

Work distracted me, so I'll have to try to catch the replay of this. Here for Ani D's "In or Out," a VHM.

I'm embarrassed that I forgot to include Joe Jackson's "Real Men" in my Pride list on my blog.

BOS, JJ.

Especially the version on his double live set from the 80's, recorded in Australia in which he dedicates the song to the victorious Aussie Rugby World Cup champs.
Like the Timbuk3, my love for JJ knows no bounds, whether or not it pops up in a Pride set.
BOS forever.

VHM (a bustout?) to Ween's "Homo Rainbow."
-
Who's doing this "Many colors in a homo rainbow" song? Definitely new ground here, as with the last song (referring to gay marriage), I think?
ETA: and Gaz has already ID'd it--it's Ween!
ETA2: The other song I couldn't name was "I Do I Do" by Larkin Gayle. Very short backsell as Dave said he was running late. But Sylvester won BOS.
And now the stream is hearing both the on-air commercial and the streaming ad, simultaneously. Ick.

It was on the South Park "Chef Aid" CD, improbably enough.
Enjoy the parades and festivities this weekend, y'alls! I'll be marching with my softball league in ours on Sunday.

Portland's Pride celebration was two weeks ago, and I suspect there isn't much going on here in Dundee for Pride weekend, at least not publicly. But I'm with y'all in spirit. Have a great weekend, whatever you're doing.

If there is any entry for Ween in the Db I'll be astonished. But I don't have the Db on my new work laptop yet.

06/27/2008 - FRIDAY!!! Today's set is...Pride!
1. Timbuk 3 - Legalize Our Love
2. Tom Robinson Band - Glad to be Gay
3. Sylvester - You Make Me Feel Mighty Real (BEST OF SET!!)
4. Billie Burke Estate - Gay
5. Lou Reed - Walk on the Wild Side

9. Larkin Gayl - I Do I Do
10. Ween - The Rainbow
BONUS TRACK: Cat Stevens - If You Want to Sing Out, Sing Out
I look forward to the replay. No EJ or Melisseridge is a *good* thing, IMHO.

Most excellent; heard it last nite and I'm listening to the replay now. The Ween was new to me -- was that Isaac Hayes chiming in towards the end? (If it's from Chef Aid, that's more than likely.) Loved the old-timey medley at the top, DJ Marilynn on KPOO has played a couple of those.
Dave's best Pride Set in ages. Minor quibble (not Dave's fault): the "I Do, I Do" song was quite nice, but -- seriously -- does EVERY new female singer have to sound like Corinne Colbie Feist? Sheesh.

Somehow this escaped my notice 2 weeks ago, but KFOG has a separate "Pride page" on the website:
http://www.kfog.com/pride/
if you scroll down a bit, to where they re-posted the set list for Dave's Pride 10@10, there's a link to listen to the set again and again if you desire.
