Local group on 415 Records, iirc.

Hadn't thought of that, but it could be.

Thanks, i see it's been played before but it's a total Narada to me -- and I was heavily into New Wave in '83. Just not a NYC record, I guess.

BOS T.Heads.

I was up in Seattle in college, and I definitely heard this on the late-lamented KYYX, along with all the other 415 acts: Red Rockers, Translator, & of course Romeo Void.

SHA!  HM to Big Country, which I was sick of for a while, but am able to enjoy again.

I always had a liking for this one--big drums, big guitars (sounding like bagpipes), big hook, what's not to like? '83 was a great year for radio singles, thanks to the rise of Rock of the 80s (via MTV, natch).

My love for Big Country knows no bounds, if only Dave or anyone else would play anything off of their subsequent albums.  I can see that they might be an acquired taste, but if you like them on tihs record, then you'll like every single track on their Greatest Hits compilation (especially the cuts from their '87 album).  But none of the 10@10's seem to know this.

ETA: And II as well.  I didn't think they were sequential on the album  :o
ETAA: They aren't.  Odd to twin-spin 'em this way.

It's good news... technically.  But there's gonna be an amendment on the ballot in Nov to reverse this, and that ain't so good.

They are all on record against gay marriage; I believe Hil & Barack are for domestic partner benefits. Not sure where McCain is -- he impressed me by speaking at Mark Bingham's funeral, but then he went and slobbered all over Falwell's ass.

There's a comment to the SFGate article that says the writer is apprehensive just because of the firestorm this issue created in the last election year, and what it might do this time around.  He has a point--California's one thing, but the fundies in the midwest and elsewhere are not going to take kindly to this.

I cringe every time I read the comments following an SFGate story.  The racism and xenophobia are all too palpable.  Any time someone with a non-European name is arrested for something, someone is sure to pipe up, "I wonder what his immigration status is."

No one is more anti-gay marriage than the black church generally (although not Rev. Wright).  It will be very tricky for Obama to support this at all (at least overtly) without alienating a large chunk of the black vote.  Unless of course he takes the high road and challenges black leaders from the church to change their stance.

I hadn't considered this angle at all; thank you for bringing it up.  It adequately explains Obama's relative silence on this subject - and I'm happy to let it lie dormant until after he's in office, if that's necessary for him to win it.

I called my folks with the news & we spent some time talking about this.  According to them Obama has stated in the past that he does not support same sex unions being called marriage, and if that's accurate then one can extrapolate the rest of his position...up to to the states to determine what benefits & legal protections, same sex unions do get, but it won't include a marriage license.
