instant BOS for an all-time fave of mine. Has it really been 2 months since Dave last did '72?

Yes, but remember, we got no fewer than *three* 1972 sets between December 21 and January 25.
and we're agreed on the BOS-ness of Jump Into the Fire (the l-o-o-o-o-o-ng version!).

You know, I've always liked Harry, and I felt this was an innovative song, but I just decided I don't like it. Just a little too unpleasant and repetitive. Oh well.
-
"don't it make you angry, when a war is draggin' on?"
(well, unless you're John McCain -- he gets angry about other things. LOTS of other things.)
VHM Chicago, a bit of a frequent flier at this point. We can make it hap--
-
wow, it's 10:15 and we're barely at song 3.
-
BOS2 Jerry when he was good.
-
BOS for JG and The Wheel. I like the beginning, but it really seems out of place with the rest of the song. Maybe it represents a transition from the hectic world to the bliss that is Jerry...
-

Not sure how long the Nilsson song is, but I think Dialogue runs something like 8 minutes. And now we've got the Dead (under the sobriquet of Mr. Garcia) doin' The Wheel, which could be kind of long, too.
Proxy of Geoff 'n Alicat.
If the thunder don't get ya then the lightnin' will!
-
As Barbara Walters would say, "The Wheel is wheely wheely good!"

Sure seems long....
-
As Barbara Walters would say, "The Wheel is wheely wheely good!"
"mistah Gawcia, if you were a twee, what kind of twee would you be?"
OMFG and proxy of Gaz: BOS3 "Operator".
-
Oy vey! Jim Croce's Operator--one of the great singles of a year that was full of them.
And I think this is the vinyl.
ETA: And it was a bustout--we've heard I Got a Name and Bad Bad Leroy Brown, both in '73, but Operator is a first-timer.
-
Hey, its young Dick Cheney! (Lon Cheney??)
"And that's the way it is!"
-
BOS4, of course, to the Mighty Zep.
-
Brandy, you're a fine Katrina -- but a Katrina nonetheless. Now dump that drunken, whoring sailor, fer chrissakes!
-
And now, an old favorite from Lighthouse. I still enjoy this one.
-
BOS, the Zepsters.
And now:
Katrina, you're a fine girl...
-
BOS Brandy ... brings back good memories when this was on the radio and my little sister just loved this song...
-
And now, an old favorite from Lighthouse. I still enjoy this one.
Lighthouse, Looking Glass, hey all those "L" groups sound the same ;)
-
The Looking Glass from New Brunswick, NJ, where I was living in 1972. Also home to Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey (Go Scarlet Knights!)
-
Something tells me we're gonna hear Argent in this set. Just a feeling.
Scrolling thru the list of Top 40 hits from '72 over on the Top-40 hits site, I am just amazed at the variety of stuff that charted in '72. Definitely one of the best years ever for pop music.
But we knew that.

mmmm... Shake'n'Bake -- nothing like sugar, salt & breadcrumbs on yer chicken!
-

Oops.
BOSx for Van the Man.
And VHM for Count Chocula.
-
mmmm... Shake'n'Bake -- nothing like sugar, salt & breadcrumbs on yer chicken!
Kind of dug that montage--and here's what's likely to get my BOS vote: Jackie Wilson Said, Van at his absolute best.
-
mmmm... Shake'n'Bake -- nothing like sugar, salt & breadcrumbs on yer chicken!
Hey, you just revealed The Colonel's secret recipe!
-
Jackie Wilson said Van the Man was Reet Petite! VHM.

Hey, you just revealed The Colonel's secret recipe!
I pretty much lived on Italian Shake'n'Bake for several years back then.

BOSx for Van the Man.
And VHM for Count Chocula.
Just due to L-literation... ;)
-
Doobs, man. Hope this is the looooooong version!
-
Don'cha feel it, 'Trina, day by day?
-
Jackie Wilson said Van the Man was Reet Petite! VHM.
Not quite bustout, but close--it only turns up twice before, and only once in '72--and that was just over 5 years ago. Definitely overdue.
-
Doobs, man. Hope this is the looooooong version!
I didn't know there was a short version. ???

The original album version is longer than the more often played single version.
-
Don'cha feel it, 'Trina, day by day?
Au contraire--it's in the DB just three times, and the last of those was in August of '06. Probably just seems like it.
-
Marc Bolan and T Rex rules!
-
What in the name of FSM was that movie?
-
Mellow galoot! is it twoo? a bit of a frequent flier too, but BOS anyway. and OMGWTFLOL to Pink Flamingos.
-
Holy flaming mother of mellow rock: BOS x+1 America, "I Need You"!
-
Would this be a bit of "America"n history from 1972?
-
Mellow galoot! is it twoo? a bit of a frequent flier too, but BOS anyway. and OMGWTFLOL to Pink Flamingos.
I thought the first voice sounded like a female impersonator. I couldn't have been more right. "Metal Guru" is awful short, ain't it?
BOSx+y for America. Or is this Bread?
-

That's "Wimp Rock" you're thinking of. Bread is the king, but America is the most successful practitioner.

It was indeed America. And it was another bustout! Pretty fine set! Lots of good clips, too!
ETA: And I just noticed that Horse With No Name isn't in the DB at all--how can this be?!?

Funny as a crutch, Rich.

speaking of "woo hoo": anyone notice that WaMu is using "Whoo Hoo" as their new ad slogan -- why the odd spelling? do FOX and Matt Groening have "Woo Hoo" trademarked?

Yes, I did see a banner stretched across a local WaMu branch. Guess its a play on "WaMu" without saying "Yahooooo". Eventually FOX will own all businesses!

Annalisa: "Dave Morey, you're a fine man, what a good husband you would be..." LOL!

Annalisa: "Dave Morey, you're a fine man, what a good husband you would be..." LOL!
Bonus: Foghead chooses Jimmy Cliff's "Wonderful World, Beautiful People" over Todd's "Couldn't I Just Tell You" -- except the Cliff tune is from 1970. Sheesh, somebody get Annlisa a copy of Whitburn, stat!
-
Annalisa: "Dave Morey, you're a fine man, what a good husband you would be..." LOL!
Heard that--and couldn't help notice that she was giggling as she said it. (For more reasons than one, no doubt.)
Damn the foghead for choosing Jimmy Cliff instead of the superb Couldn't I Just Tell You by Todd Rundgren.

Just realized Dave missed an opportunity to memorialize Hurricane Smith by playing Oh Babe What Would You Say. Alas...

There's always our next '73 set (OBWWYS is an "overlapper")

I noticed that, and wondered the same thing.
My totally unsubstatiated guess was that their marketing dept. was worried about offending customers with 'Woo' for a last name.

Ha! Maybe Homer Simpson's favorite.

wished I could've heard this instead of the 9th graders! It really is Jerry (not GD) as he plays all instruments except drums.

Wow, I didn't know that. I thought this album was similar to Weir's Ace in that the backing musicians were essentially the Dead, even tho the albums were billed as solo works. Ya learn something every day.

you are correct. Ace is actually the Dead, but Garcia is just Garcia w/Billy on drums.

And surprisingly, Bang A Gong, which to my recollection is their biggest hit, has but one.
