JS doing his best Harry Chapin imitation, or so many thought at the time.  It's Dave's day for the recently departed: he played Buddy Miles in the 6:00 hour.

I'd expect to have Them Changes included in a set at his earliest opportunity.

That's some fantasy. You should introduce her to Scarlett and the twins.

well, after all, we're in 1979: disco and free love for all! Boogie Wonderland!  Oops, Carter just burst my bubble... But now Elvis saves the day!

I think Dave has worn out this Carter clip.  Seems like it has been in every 79 set for a long while.

First solid BOS candidate, although certainly a regular: EC, (What's So Funny 'Bout) Peace Love and Understanding?

ETA: I recant that. It appears in the DB exactly once, in 2006. I could have sworn....

always a BOS for Elvis' "(WSF'B)PL&U?", tho' I'd've preferred a less-frequent flyer from this LP.

You want another one?  Without peeking, guess how many times "My Sharona" appears in the Db for 1979.

Second serious BOS candidate: Roxy, Ain't That So.

Another single-appearance song, from '05. Could have sworn we'd heard it more recently. Maybe it was Ginger.

Two? Three max? (Since you're asking, it's probably just one.) Gonna go look now...

Only twice in a '79 set, 3 times in a VT that covered summer of '79, and once in the Earworm set.

Another VHM to the Doobies, aka the Michael McDonald Band. IIRC, What A Fool Believes cleaned up at the Grammies. Unfortunatly, AMG's notoriously slow servers are timing out on me, so I can't confirm that.

he had to play this after having played "He's So Shy" last week...  "Steal Away" should be on tap next week.

VHM Ian Gomm, which I truly loved back then.  Guess it was either this or "Cruel to be Kind" to cover the Stiff contingent.

I was already in:

1979  (Album) Minute By Minute - Best Pop Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal
1979  (Song) What a Fool Believes - Record Of The Year

Song of the year and Record of the Year, I'm guessing; not sure about the Album winner that year.

Also Best Instrumental arrangement accompanying Vocalist(s)/Best background arrangement to Michael McDonald,
and Song of the Year to Kenny Loggins and Michael McDonald, both for WAFB. (I think record of the year is for the recording, song of the year is for songwriting.)

Foghead totally cacked on the bonus choice. Rosalie offered him Tim Curry's I Do the Rock or the aforementioned My Sharona, but he took Devo's Workin' In a Coal Mine--which wasn't even from '79, iirc.

indeed -- "Whip it" is from 1980, and "Coal Mine" came after that.

According to Wikipedia (I grit my teeth every time I type that), Album of the year at the 1980 Grammies (the same year the Doobies cleaned up) was Billy Joel's 52nd Street.

Yup. Best New Artist was Rickie Lee Jones and it was the ONLY year they gave the "Best Disco Recording" Grammy (to "I Will Survive", ironically).
