Yay, The Band! I heard "Chest Fever" the other day -- they were really fantastic.

great spin o the wheel.
almost unheard of on a Wednesday.

I have to think the fact that it's Barry Howarth's (Mr. Rosalie) b-day might have played a part, in addition to the Foghead that asked.
-
Yay again for "Crosstown Traffic". Two minutes fifty of bliss (more or less).
-
you're just like crosstown traffic, so hard to get through to you.

You have to use the Expressway to your Heart and get off at the Slauson cutoff (and cut off your Slauson!)
we're going on '69 again!

And/or an excuse to play the Beatles' 1968 Xmas card. "Oh, hello to you nice Beatles! It's so wonderful, what a thrill it is, talking here! Oh!
-
Nooooo, not Tiny Tim!!! God hates us, everyone.
-
TANC: I just played "Mony Mony" on my way home from work last night (er, this morning), along with a few other TJ&tS hits.

Mr Tim was one-of-a-kind.
ah, Mr James's ode to Mutual Of New York...
-
BOS2 to "Unknown Soldier." Not the best songcraft, but effective for the roles they created for themselves.
-
I just gotta get a BOS vote to the Bee Gees!
-
Uber-BOS, BeeGees, Gotta Get a Message to You.
TANC: Last weekend I was listening to the "Listen Without Prejudice" set that Dave did after Maurice Gibb died. (And a tip o' the Santa cap to Alicat for sharing that one!)
-
1968 = music made by computers
2007 = music made by fembots
Decision: 1968.
-
My favorite part of "The Horse" is those seven stiffly plucked guitar notes before everyone else kicks in.

Uber-ditto!
Does anyone else remember listening to Don McNeil's Breakfast Club on their local ABC affiliate?
OMFG! another BOS for Cliff Nobles & Co!

Played this one literally hundreds of times in my high school pep band at football and basketball games. BOS3 (or was that 4?).

Kudos to Dave for substituting this for "Grazin' in the Grass" in his '68 instrumental slot today.

Joe Cocker's singers, to their subprime-mortgage CDOs:
"Does it worry you to be a loan?"

Weedman on the Bone talked about that yesterday during the lunch set where the theme was money. Mony Mony qualified in the money set.

Streaming in late here.
Loved the "Daisy" computer song - I suppose that was the inspiration for HAL?

as long as there wasn't a "money shot" ;)
Hooray for the astronauts. If you haven't seen In the Shadow of the Moon, the docu from earlier this year, check it out on DVD.
uh-oh, it's Kermit!

vice-versa, I think -- the movie was probably already out by the time they did that radio bit.

Indeed. Last time Dave played that clip I got curious about it:

I had no idea the Crapton-bashing went backward in time, in a sort of revisionist context!
:o ::)

No Crapton-bashing intended; but SOYL is by far the most overexposed of all the tracks in question.

well, you could be right about exposure, but as far as 'interesting' is concerned, I guess some of the other tracks don't interest me as much. Just a personal thing.

This (or maybe the '72 on Friday) was probably the set of the week for me.
