for a sec I thought War's "Cinco de Mayo" was released in 1980 but it was 1981
Dear gawd: right before today's 10@10 we get Cake's "The Distance", fresh from yesterday's set. Sheesh.
-
Devo "Gates of Steel" TOTHK and BOS1 -- a rarity if not a Bustout.
ETA: another of AL's "played once before, 5 years ago" songs (of which there seem to be many)
-
BOS2 Pete T "And I Moved" -- always welcome and less-heard than "Rough Boys", methinks.
-
our token Moment of HAAAY: SOS Band, takin' they time and doin' it right.
-
scorekeeping: the Townshend has quite a few appearances, almost all of them during the Morey era, unsurprisingly.
This SOS tune turns out to be rare: couple of DM spins and none from AL.

And this appears to be an extended dance remix I've never heard before.

Haha, this is totally "What a Fool Believes He Can Steal Away". And was that MM singing backing vocals???
-
Leia & Han --> Fools, "It's a Night For Beautiful Girls"! my request -- I knew if I requested a Boston fave she'd play it. BOS2
-
Laverne & Shirley go to Mexico -- LOL.
BOS3 Linda R's cover of "Girls Talk" from her "new wave" LP Mad Love

Pretty fine segue, too. "There are some things you can't cover up with lipstick and powder..."
-
BOS4 Zevon's goofy cover of "A Certain Girl"
-
Another clever transition:
Han & Leia arguing > Warren Zevon, A Certain Girl.
Methinks they dost protest too much...
-
uber-BOS5 Broooooooooce "Sherry Darling". this is the 3rd or 4th 'snipe request today.

Do we need to guess who requested this one?
(It is a pretty great song, one we could certainly hear a little more often. BOS for me, too.)

astoundingly it appears to be our second bustout.
-
Mink DeVille? Another bustout methinks.

Seriously? I could swear it's another of those "once, five years ago" songs.
But this Mink Deville tune, if it's not a bustout I'd be gobsmacked.

it is indeed. The non-East-Coasters in snipeland were baffled by this one and The Fools.
Pretenders get a VHM for "Mystery G-Man", one of my fave mondegreens. This would be a BOS in a weaker set but this was most excellent today.

You mean Robbie Dupree, right?
-
Remember when Letterman was the morning guy on NBC? Me either.
VVHM Mystery Achievement. 1980 Pretenders can't miss, so long as it's something besides Brass LN Pocket.

Yeah, that was weird with Letterman. Did he really do news in 1980?
Enjoying the Pretenders' tune.

I want to say the Fools got some alt-rock play here. Plus I have it on a compilation, so it's not completely unfamiliar to me.

AL must have loaded up her backpack with nuggets from the record cellar. She mentioned last week that she doesn't have the vast KFOG music library to draw from any more -- a lot of it got jettisoned when they relocated from Hawthorne St. So most anything we hear that's a deep cut, it's probably off her own record.

You're kidding...they thinned out their music library? Lame!

Oops, you're right. I rearranged my Robbies. I wonder Mr Dupree is anyone's cousin?

Physical media is so 1998.

I don't think they got rid of digitized songs so much as they haven't loaded them into the new system yet. But anything that was CD-or-vinyl only, yeah, I suspect that's gone to various deejay's personal collections. And we know AL's was already considerable. I'm sure the Fools song came from home.

And I'm going out on a limb and suggesting they did not offer the discards to Fogheads.

not over the air, but iirc they mentioned taking crates of CDs to some outdoor event they were at.

Went old-school and took a look at the Shraytabase, which told me that we did indeed hear Sherry Darling once before, on May 25 of 2004. I guess it was due.
(That was before we moved the board to this platform, so not going to surface any search results here.)

Okay, which Mink DeVille tune did AL spin today? I requested "Mazurka", so I'm curious to see if she actually played my request.
