OMFG: a thread is up early on a Sunday evening!
-
Given that Annie Lennox was unanimously voted the highlight of the Grammys last nite, it would be a fine day for AL to play my Tourists request. Jus' sayin'.
-
pre-set: really old Zep for the 2nd time this morning. ("Ramble On" in the 6:00 hour and now "Over the Hills...") I guess KFOG plays the "mellow" Zep tracks that the Bone bypasses in favor of the louder stuff.
-
AC/DC hits the highway for our TOTHK. What's the over-under on Grammy show references today?
-
Ian Hunter! BOS1 "Cleveland Rocks"

Ian Hunter! BOS1 "Cleveland Rocks"
I used to watch the Drew Carey show in re-runs quite a bit. Craig Ferguson was pretty great on that. (ETA: I should explain if you don't know: this was the theme song for that show).
-
Ian Hunter! BOS1 "Cleveland Rocks"
BOS for me as well. This should spin the heads of the Fogheads who only know this song as the theme from the Drew Carey Show.
(Btw, when Ian played here a couple years ago, he changed one or two choruses to "Portland rocks!" 'Cause it does.)
-
Elvis C "Accidents (and LNs) Will Happen"
-
3 Mile Island --> "Ghost Riders in the Sky" Johnny Cash. This was a kick to hear the first time AL surprised us with it, but now...
-
Holee campfire coffee. Johnny Cash's Ghost Riders In The Sky.
I know this song, I know Johnny Cash, but I know nothing about the release of this song in 79. Not that it matters, but it's an example of he deejay/programing going off the beaten path to put on a track that is unexpected, but not too freaking weird that it makes people think they're trying too hard.
-
OMFG: BOS2 Kirsty MacColl's orig version of "They Don't Know"
WOS Dr Hook.
-
Holee guacamole, the original Kirsty MacColl version of They Don't Know.
Standing by for the "Bay-BEEE!" (Which was ported over to the Tracey Ullman version, 'cause Tracey wasn't able to hit it just *so.*)
-
Is this Kirstie McColley (sp?) doing They Don't Know About Us?
ETA: See correct spelling above ;)
-
Kirsty MacColl's original version of They Don't Know.
Lurve this song. I think I prefer Tracey Ullman sweetened-up voice on this. It's also the version I first knew.
-
VHM for the soulful Dr. Hook. I don't much like this song, but I do like their variation of their sound.

I'd never heard the Kirsty version. Had no idea it existed.

Likewise. Look forward to hearing it.

I heard Tracey's version first too, and I think just judging the two versions against one another with all else equal, I agree with you. The later version has all those chimes and shimmering Spector-esque production things, so it really sounds awesome. (It's one of those songs I can just listen to over and over and over. Total ear candy.)
That said, I can't help but love the version we heard today too, knowing what I know now about Kirstie and how she came to an end.
Sodden thought: Has AL ever played Kirstie's "In These Shoes?"? That would certainly liven up a 2000 set.
-
news report on The Clash --> "Rudie Can't Fail". BOS4.

Gilda as Lisa Loopner --> RLJ "Chuck E"

right, lush production. The bells, the epic sound. I'm trying to think of Tracey's version, but the Clash are on 10at10 (Rudy Can't Fail) and I can't ignore music entering my ears for music I would otherwise like to play in my head. Anyway, I think Tracey features a lot of backing vox, too.
BOS Gllda Radner from her live show.

yeah, what a shame.
I love her version of The Smiths' You Just Haven't Earned It Yet, Baby
