The request thread was posted really late. Wonder if she'll even consider any of my MOR requests. :D

I've requested "Stoney End" in the past, to no avail. I was half-expecting a Robin Williams tribute set.

I thought perhaps we'd get a clip from early in his career, but 1971 is pushing it.
And given how often Perry Como has come up in recent discussion, an appearance would be most appropriate.

Pretty sure that in 1971 Robin Williams was still attending College of Marin. But his movie output from the early 80s on has been pretty consistent, so I'd assume we'll hear some clips in nearly any set from 82 or later.

I'm gonna predict a 1993 set tomorrow with lots of Mrs Doubtfire

Willy Wonka "Pure Imagination" --> Santana, ripping off "Karate" for "Everybody's Everything". A perfectly fine TOTHK.

TANC: Had The Communards cover of this in my recent '87 set.

BOS3 "Moonshadow". AL's really hitting my sweet spot today (not to mention songs referenced in my work-in-progress).
-
More acoustic stuff with Jonathan Edwards "Sunshine"

-
OK, "Sunshine" is LN1 for me. At least it's short.
-
Harold And Maude ---> Carole King "Beautiful"
-
Harold & Maude watch things grow --> Ms King's "Beautiful", clearly an AL fave and BOS4.
-
Stampeders "Sweet City Woman"
-
The mellow side of 1971 continues... Stampeders "Sweet City Woman". Banjos rule!
I'm guessing a certain 'snipe is feeling very cranky about the lack of RAWK in this set.

Which reminds me, I forgot to request the Flamin' Groovies version of "Have You Seen My Baby".

According to Wikipedia, he's still alive.

Dick Cavett interviews Evil Knievel ---> T. Rex "Jeepster"

Dick Cavett w/Evel Knievel --> "Jeepster". This one's kinda LN, considering we got T.Rex last week too.

But it will help with the whining from the Snipes that you mentioned

wow, I coulda sworn he died a while back. Turns out he's now an anti-gay preacher, so... he's dead to me.

not a bustout but far from overplayed afaik.

We started with Santana, now we get the fake Santana!
Haha, hey Geoff, you'd appreciate this then. My buddy and I were at a Dead concert at Frost waiting for the show to start and "Can't You Hear Me Knocking" came on. We remarked about how it has a Santana-like ending, and sure enough, the next song on the tape was a Santana song. Man, we just fell about the place.
-
And we close with Willie Wonka & The Chocolate Factory: "We are the music makers, and we are the dreamers of dreams."

Listening to records on the Dead's PA was awesome. The best Hotel California I ever heard was at Winterland. Mountain Jam at the Oakland Coliseum between NYE sets.

if that chick don't wanna know, forget her!

I remember hearing them play a Jimmy Smith album once before a Coliseum show that just floored me. I had to go up and ask what album it was.

YOU GUYS!
I voted in the GS for Stones. I always LURVE that song -- I cain't quit it.
But it was great to hear the Who, too.
I normally dig the mellow & pop stuff, but today, The Cat Man, Carole King, the Stampeders and Jonathan Edwards ("Sunshine") were making me feel crappy. I missed the Jackson 5, though. Had i heard that it might've put me in a better mood.

I didn't hear all of the backannounce, but I got the sense that AL was in a mellow mood because of Robin Williams -- 6 out of 10 were in that vein.
eeek, did someone at KFOG really misspell Cat "Stephens"?

Ringo's version of The Point (which actually came later than '71)
Yep, and I don't much care for it. Nilsson does the narration on the album, and I think I have
the movie on videotape with one of the other narrators. While I can surmise why they used
him on the DVD, I was disappointed in the result. I don't think he was a good choice, he doesn't
bring anything other than his name to it, and I find he really takes me out of the story because
"it's Ringo reading The Point."

Actually, my complaint about AL's '60s sets leaning heavily towards pop is #8. A lack
of new material in rich years with high bust-out potential is #1. Both apply today. :(
(Okay, I don't really have a numbered list of complaints.)
I'm not terribly impressed with AL's brother's record collection, or at least with what she
liked in it.

agree totally. It was Dustin Hoffman when it first aired, but ABC discovered when they wanted to rerun it that his contract only covered one airing. They hired some voiceover guy to re-dub it for subsequent showings and then they got Ringo for the home video versions.
