So... 1990 on Thursday, and Outside Lands (again) on Friday?

Since I'll be far from a radio on Thursday, it'll probably be 1960  ;)  And I'll surely pass on Y2K.

I'd forgotten about Outside Lands -- another set I'll skip -- this may be the first week (not counting vacations) where I will have not heard all 5 shows.

The groundswell for Outkast is becoming irresistible.

Hey Mike, I requested Tom Jones' "Sexbomb" just for you, and, wouldn't you know it,
AL posted a YouTube clip of it -- could she possibly play it tomorrow??

As I've said before , it's the go-to "hip, out-of-format" song of the early '00s, so it would not be a surprise at all.

Not the worst choice for that role, but it's entered FF territory, if not Katrina-land.

So far:

A3, Woke Up This Morning
Everclear, AM Radio

Oh and the set led off with an election night clip of Dan Rather "hotter than a Laredo parking lot."

I think that of all the AAA/HAC acts of the late 90's/early 00's that I tolerated at the time, this group's output has aged the least well.

BeLN Harper, Steal My Kisses. He has songs that are more rock 'n' roll than this, FWIW.

Huge John Cusack fan, Huge XTC fan, so that actually made my day.

Given that my attendance has been sporadic at best the last couple years or so & that 2000 was in limited rotation when I was hanging more regularly...not sure of the answer to the following question, but:

But does 2000 get any extra love for being the year that the 10@10 Club got rolling?

ETA:  back then, the latest year in rotation was 1989, which had an extraordinarily low mean deviation between Katrinas iirc.

I wouldn't be surprised if it were. Although it also appeared on their last studio album of original material, Wasp Star.

I'd say no. Love the people, but the songs that tend to get played in a Y2K set...notsomuch.

For whatever reason, I thought the Yahoo club originated in 1999. But it was in August 2000 when I first met Gazoo, RGM, POC, Beej and Rod at a chain pizza restaurant at Embarcadero 2 that has long since moved on.

And I remember meeting Dave for the first time at Chevy's near the same location with a larger group a couple of months later.

Thanks for the name of the place - there'd be a ribs place in the same locale through about 2005, but it's been a "For Lease" ever since.

I don't who or what that was. I give 1 un-vote for "best of set".

I had known Gaz since late 1996 (we were mutually one of each others first friends upon moving to the city that year), and I was definitely at the Pizzeria Uno event, so we must have met as well!

Jack Black in High Fidelity --> Dandy Warhols. I love this song, but it's quite the '99/'00 Katrina at this point.

Still, it's BOWS (W standing for "a Weak"). This White Stripes is great, too, but White Stripes as the "alternative" in a 00's set is becoming the cliche of cliches on an increasingly routinized show.

I was trying to recall Rastrelnikov's handle.  I have clear memories of my first encounter with PoC that night.

There was a barbeque hosted by Geoff a couple years later at which Eujean & Alicat were seated side by side, and began reminiscing about which neighborhood in the city they'd lived in, and eventually they realized they'd gone to the same elem school, had the same 2nd grade teacher, lived on the same block and finally - given that Ali is a few years older - that Ali had babysat for Eujean.

One of my all-time favorite small world stories.
