Sadly, I'm going to miss the live broadcast of this one as well. Hopefully it's a great one!

-
BOS1 Psychedelic Pstones, "She's a rainbow"
-
Dating Game with batchelor Casey Kasem! --> "She'd Rather Be With Me", Turtles. BOS2

It's the Dating Game! A shoutout to the Capn? Ah, another Casey Kasem nod.

BOS3 Spoonful, "Darling Be Home Soon"
-
BOS The Turtles She'd Rather Be With Me.
my request was "'She's My Girl' -- or anything that's not 'Happy Together'". This will do nicely
-
VHM BufSpgfld. "RnR Woman"
-
BOS3 Spoonful, "Darling Be Home Soon"
John Sebastian was at this time one of America's finest songwriters. BOS2.
-
Great set so far!! Big BOS from me for Buffalo Springfield...
-
BOS4 Airplane "You're My Best Friend". when i was 13 I thought this was the mamas & Papas.

Could easily have been -- this draws from the same 60s folkie roots that the Mamas & Papas came from. As did a lot of the psychedelic bands around this time.
-
"SF is where it's at for happy hippies" --> Scott McKenzie. Least-necessary Cliche of Set
-
more hippies --> "Gentle on My Mind" BOS5 Glen Campbell or is it Hartford?

"SF is where it's at for happy hippies" --> Scott McKenzie. Least-necessary Cliche of Set
FB comment of the day: "If you're going to San Francisco be sure to wear your Google Glasses"
-
Whoa! Gentle On My Mind! BOS whatever.
Mike, I'm pretty sure this is Glen Campbell's version, but Hartford is likely one of the backing musicians on the track.
Would love to hear a Smothers Brothers clip in this set--they were in their heyday in 67, too.
-
"Waterloo Sunset" is something of an AL-trina at this point but BOS6 anyway. Sublime.

yeah, it's Glen. Their versions are quite similar and I alwyas find I have to listen closely to differentiate

I can not conceive of ever having a complaint about hearing this song in any situation. One of the best pop songs ever. Immediately takes me back to my stay in London ten years ago, hearing someone busking outside the South Kensington tube station playing this song on a sunny afternoon. I was in paradise.
-
"Close & Play" record player --> song 10 to close us out: "Mellow Yellow", uber-LN2. But overall, quite a delight.
-
Re AL's shoutout to John Hartford in the backsell: I suppose it could be chalked up to people of like interests and experiences talking about the same song, but sometimes I swear she's lurking here during the set.
-
more hippies --> "Gentle on My Mind" BOS5 Glen Campbell or is it Hartford?
For some reason, it made me think of Bob Lind's "Elusive Butterfly."

yes! those 2 songs have long been linked in my mind. There is a melodic similarity. I love "Elusive Butterfly". I'll have to work it into the book somehow.

Tomorrow would appear to be either a '90s day or perhaps early '80s. And I'm guessing (hoping) Friday is a Summer set.
Also, AL hinted on FB today that a covers set was coming soon.
-

I also have had the sense that she's reading or has read this board. In any event if she is, she's
not taking enough of our advice! :)

BOS The Turtles She'd Rather Be With Me.
my request was "'She's My Girl'
That would have been good. I have the 45.
BOS3 Spoonful, "Darling Be Home Soon"

This is lovely... a big BOS from me. Another artist who I would like to hear more
often on 10@10, and whose catalog contains gems not yet heard on the show.
"SF is where it's at for happy hippies" --> Scott McKenzie. Least-necessary Cliche of Set
I haven't gotten tired of hearing this one yet... in 1967 I was still listening to AM radio, which
meant top 40 format and the likes of WABC out of New York. I have specific memories of listening
to San Francisco, along with Itchycoo Park, I Am the Walrus, and a handful of other songs
while spending many hours tinkering with various projects at my workbench in the cellar.
Whoa! Gentle On My Mind! BOS whatever.

Smothers Brothers would indeed be a perfect clip and would be in line with AL's style -- her clips
tend to be more commercial and entertainment based. One thing I miss is Dave's news clip
summaries, where a montage of quotes tells the story in sixty seconds or so.
"Waterloo Sunset" is something of an AL-trina at this point but BOS6 anyway. Sublime.
Apparently Dave never played it, but it has been making yearly appearances since his departure.
It seems that lately there are more songs being played that are LN, yet haven't been spun that
many times. I think this has something to do with how sets are constructed these days. More
speculation later...
San Francisco and Mellow Yellow may indeed be LN, but they have only been played
a handful of times each.
Indeed, just about every thing in today's show is in the low-spin category, and even Dandelion,
the closest thing to a FF, has just under ten. Yet there were no bust-outs. You can't walk ten
paces in 1967 without stepping on a bust-out. A blindfolded monkey could throw ten darts over
its shoulder at 1967 and at least one of them would hit a bust-out.
I think today was another Franken-set -- a show assembled using a few elements (songs and
clips) from three or four other shows.
-
(Movie trailer: Casino Royale/Outro: Herb Alpert & Tijuana Brass- Casino Royale)
Despite my other grumblings, I do appreciate the improved presentation and execution
skills Annalisa brings to 10@10, as evidenced in part by playing Casino Royale under the
backsell today. Inspired choice, and well done.

indeed, true of all '60s sets. The Peak did '69 today -- and mind you, Rob is month-specific -- and we still got "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes", "Israelites" and "Get Together".

No question: she enjoys it, has fun with it, and puts some effort into it. For RR it seemed like just another assignment from the boss. The way AL sneaks in an extra song as the bed under the backsell is just one way she expands on the limits of the format.
