I'm probably going to miss the live broadcast for this one, so take copious notes!
Hopefully it will be more enjoyable than the '89 set...  :)

It can't be worse -- that was easily her most predictable outing ever.

Meanwhile, she's doing 1978 on Barry Manilow's birthday. Copa-coincidence?

I also hope that there is a non-Bee Gees disco number.

We def. seem to be taking a yacht-rock tilt to things today. BOS to the Rafferty and H&O so far.

Bruce Jenner & Wheaties > Pump It Up

Plus points for a clever segue. Negative points for a song we hear plenty already.

(And perhaps has that segue been done before? If so, negative points there too.)

Really? I haven't heard this in years. Sounds good to me today.

a KFOG staple both in and out of 10@10. Coulda been worse I guess -- coulda been "Heart of Glass".

uber-BOS4 Casey Kasem!!  and BOS5 Heatwave's "Always & Forever". Slow dance!

And I'm squarely in between the two of you--I know we've heard it, but certainly not as much as other Blondie tunes. BOS for me, and big fat BOS to Joey Ramones' ode to spinning old opera records: Needles and Enzio Pinza.

Big props for using the Casey Kasem bit as a basis for playing Heatwave, which we probably wouldn't have heard otherwise. Nice.

Yes, very overplayed.  But I have always loved this song.

10@10 can always use more smoove soul, yo.  Looooong version, too.

Fantasy Island  --> "Thunder Island". uber-uber-LN4 and one of my "never need to hear it again" songs.

I guess it's kind of a guilty pleasure for me. Adolescent Dave was always titillated (well, yeah) by the line about "in the sun with your dress undone". Hubba hubba.

"Copacabana" -- BOS6 for Barry's B-day. even if we didn't get the whole thing.

(bonus: shout-out to me!)

AL slips a bit of Barry and the Copa in for the backsell...with a giggle!

And Casey, too!

A far better set than yesterday's, imo. Two LNs (the Doobs and Elvis) but otherwise a nice trip to 78. And no Joe or Jeff(erson).

Post set question: That solar energy ad that plays on the stream pretty regularly--is that Will Durst doing the voiceover there?

I think so.  He does VOs for labor unions, too.  "hey guys, Will durst here, Infrastructure is really important.  We need new roads... etc.."  The ads are like general awareness ads paid for by unions and don't target a specific issue beyond how it's critical that things get built.

He musta meant Thunder Island. I can certainly imagine him doing that slide guitar. There's no guitar to speak of on Fool.

oh yeah, oops. my mistake.  Joe Walsh is on Thunder Island. The guitar player on the Doobs hit (heh) must be Jeff "Skunk" Baxter.

btw, you know the story of Skunk Baxter?  he brought Michael McDonald over to the Doobies when Tom Johnston, the first main singer, got ill and had to leave the group. Skunk had worked w McDonald as session musicians for Steely Dan and told the other Doobies "I know a dude who can sing pretty well.."

Bonus: Skunk is now some sort of missile defense expert, self-taught, and I think has testified for some congressional subcommittees or some such.

He's actually a bit of a right-wing crank, and has run for Congress as a Republican, iirc.
