no clues posted; I'm wondering if we're getting one of those generic "let's kick off the holiday weekend" kinda sets.
Renee played "Holiday Road" at 6am which was quite a nice surprise.
BTW, I note that June has a Friday the 13th... but it's also the friday before Father's Day. Daddy songs from hell? Paging Wayne Newton...

Should I do another "hits from hell" set? If so, should I take requests? ;D

1980 is the year - TOTHK - The Clash "Clampdown"
-
and it's... 1980. "Working For the Clampdown" a fine TOTHK. BOS1.
-
"trickle-down" economics --> Dire Straits "Solid Rock" BOS2.
-
trickle-down economics ---> Dire Straits "Solid Rock"

Who shot J.R. --> "Canary in a Coalmine".
-
Dallas Who shot J.R. ---> The Police "Canary In A Coalmine"
-
Love Canal--> T.Heads "Crosseyed & Painless". BOS3. "Still waiting..." for a bustout.
-
if it were a DM 1980, maybe we'd hear 'Althea.'

Love Canal ---> Talking Heads "Crosseyed And Painless"

BOS The Police : Great Song / Great Album (IMHO)
-
this is a wheelhouse set for me ... so far. was listening to all of this stuff.
BOS Talking Heads from their best album, when Brian Eno was an unofficial member of the band.
-
Airplane! ---> Diana Ross "Upside Down"
-
BOS4 Miss Ross (she da boss), "Upside Down" -- hardly rare but a welcome bit of dance-pop, maybe the only bit we get today.
-
Nile Rodgers produced this Diana gem, I say to thee.
-
Love Canal ---> Talking Heads "Crosseyed And Painless"
BOS. You can count this as a dance tune if you like.
-
Diff'rent Strokes ---> The English Beat "Mirror In The Bathroom"
-
Different Strokes "whatchoo talkin' 'bout Willis?" --> English Beat, "Mirror inna Bafroom". I'll LN this one, tho', just to keep up my crankypants cred.
-
Pantene commercial "Don't hate me because I'm beautiful" ---> Linda Ronstadt "Girls Talk"
-
OMFG: Ms Ronstadt's cover of "Girls talk" -- our bustout/rarity, methinks. BOS5.
-
holy sheeeet. I fell madly in love with Linda because of this song -- even though it's anemic compared to Dave Edmunds and Elvis' version.
-
Laverne & Shirley --> NRBQ "Me & The Boys"
-

Nice...

NTM. I'll give it an HM.

Elvis was famously critical of her take but it probably made him a lot more money than his and Edmunds' versions combined. I'd've preferred she followed it with some actual Costello instead of this NRBQ Moreytrina.
-
Laverne & Shirley --> NRBQ "Me & The Boys"
Holy crap!! Not a bustout, but I could hear this song every day of the week. BOS the Q.
-
Pontiac commercial ---> Gary Numan "Cars"
-
Pontiac car commercial --> "Cars". Oy, seriously? Way obvious segue and one of the uber-uber-LNs of 1980.
-
unless song 10 is 12 minutes long, this is a really short set.
-
I'd've preferred she followed it with some actual Costello instead of this NRBQ Moreytrina.
Perhaps you're thinking of Bonnie Raitt's cover? Dave only ever played Get That Gasoline Blues and A Little Bit of Bad from the NRBQ catalog.
-
The Vapors "Turning Japanese"
-
and here's another uber-uber-LN of 1980: the Vapors. Guaranteeing us the shortest set of the week.
-
as a bicyclist I officially must hate on this Gary Numan song, but it kicks ass!
saw Gary Numan last month at the Fillmore and it was a FANTASTIC show. His new album -- yes he is still making music -- channels dark synth goth, a la NIN, but when he trotted out Cars and Are 'Friends' Electric?, all the awesomeness of the elder statesmen of 80s new wave was back in full force.
Turning Japanese, I heard this not 40 mins ago on Oldies 103.7 -- or maybe it was kfox.
this is the stuff I was listening to back then. :)

me mind is playing tricks on me. AL has surely played it before. And yeah, the Bonnie version has also been spun.
-
Don Pardo and CP30 close the set
ETA: Interestingly, AL didn't solicit BOS voting...
-
Laverne & Shirley --> NRBQ "Me & The Boys"
Holy crap!! Not a bustout, but I could hear this song every day of the week. BOS the Q.
I always think this is Rockpile.
-

or, the shortest set of the weak!

I'd say the 1985 set was weaker, but YMMV. This one coulda used a couple more rarities, certainly.

Feel Like a Stranger, Lost Sailor/Saint of Circumstance would be wonderful bust-outs.
-
I think this set would have been improved with more synths...
Thursday's 1973 set was okay, but otherwise I did not think much of the shows this week. Maybe
it's just me, but I haven't even been motivated enough to comment on them. Oh well...
