I really like UB40's "Can't Help Falling in Love."  Just thought I'd share that before the slagging starts!
I like the UB40 too!

BUT -- WOS "Somewhere Over The Rainbow".  If it aint Judy, I don't want to hear it!  And even then...

Yeah...I'm pretty picky about this song, too. If it ain't Patti...(although Eva Cassidy and Judy, of course, are acceptable).

Give Iz props for completely reworking the song to include "Wonderful World," to the point where so many artists these days use the Iz arrangement.  All due respect to Judy, this is a different vibe.  And oh my word yes, Eva!

Don't stand in the way of LOVE!

It appears that neither Tag Team, Dada, Robin S, Meat Loaf, Blur nor the Judybats got played, no?

I know I've done this rant before but Iz's version is the most annoying cover ever. How can you screw up the lyrics to one of the best-known songs in history? To the point where you're making lines that are supposed to rhyme... NOT RHYME??  And nobody in the studio with him that day thought to point it out? Sorry but that's just ridiculous. Very glad I missed this set today -- I would've gone berserk on FB.  >:(

9/1/11-Thursday! The Sounds of "Today" in...1993!!

 1. Smashing Pumpkins- Today
(TV: SNL-Charles Barclay w/Nirvana)
  2. Nirvana- Heart Shaped Box
(TV: SNL-Motivational Speaker on his way)
  3. Lemonheads- Into Your Arms
  4. Soul Asylum- Run Away Train
(TV: SNL-Chris Farley-Van down by the river)
  5. Sheryl Crow- Leaving Las Vegas
6.Pearl Jam- Elderly Woman Behind the Counter In A Small Town
(TV: SNL-Motivational speech)
  7. Radiohead - Creep
  8. Crash Test Dummies- Mmm Mmm Mmm Mmm
(News: Pres Clinton's Budget Cuts)
  9.  UB40- Can't Help Falling In Love With You
 10. Israel Kamakawiwo'ole- Somewhere Over The Rainbow (B.O.S!)

ANAL POINTS:

1) It's Runaway Train, we're not telling a train to run away.
2) It's Barkley, not Barclay

What was with the SNL theme?

Last I checked this was supposed to be KFOG's 10@10, not Live 105's 90s @ Noon... ::)

Most unnecessary = Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, Soul Asylum, Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Iz K.  (The latter which has been on KFOG an awful lot since DC took over.)  PJ and Radiohead are also tied for WOS.

The other four weren't too necessary either.  :(  I guess I'll give BOS to Sheryl Crow by default, her only song I legitimately like.

AL has had 'themes" running thru a lot of sets lately, and I'm guessing SNL clips are easy to come by. Still, glad I missed this one; as always some of our pop suggestions (Tina, MeatLoaf, Robin S, Tony B and Frank S) would've really helped here.

I like Rufus Wainwright's rendition.  But, then again, I like Rufus Wainwright.  I have a feeling I'm in the minority here with that one.

Damn, this bland set could've used some Salt 'N Pepa!

Then we're at least a minority of two. But I think there are at least one or two others here who like Rufus, too.
Let's get right to it.
