The hits get bigger as the numbers get smaller!  We enter the Top Three with Serena Ryder, "Stompa". I'd like to stomp-a this-a song-a out-a.

I've gotta assume "Royals" is #1 or 2.

and the song at the top of this stax-o-wax is... Lorde, "Royals".

I'm not gonna call this set good or bad; it is what it is.  Certainly, from their perspective, it's a way to showcase "today's KFOG".  But other than the Frank Turner, I'm not terribly fond of any of these, and the ones that I found bearable when new are now totally burnt out.

I don't recall the Vampire Weekend getting as much airplay as the others, but maybe that's just me.

This is like a slightly more exciting version of a Live From The Archives set. Not that any of the songs are bad, but ultimately such a set seems the waste of everybody's time.

I guess the idea, in the age of people-meters, is that (a) younger demos tuning around while in the car will stop at one of these familiar songs, and (b) it drives folks to the website to see "the complete list".

Speaking of, I wonder if "Safe and Sound" and other songs removed from/never on KFOG's rotation will be on Monday's 10@10.  Maybe "Same Love" by Macklemore/Ryan Lewis/Mary Lambert. (The survey this year actually listed plenty of songs that weren't part of KFOG's regular rotation, unlike last year's which omitted many songs, even ones that were on their playlist.)

Update after viewing the full list of 2013 Foghead Favorites: Nada.  Capital Cities at 23.  Depeche Mode (which also got dumped at the same time as CC and DC) was 24.  Moby (41), Macklemore (43), Daft Punk (44) look like the only ones on their list that were never on the real playlist.  Also David Bowie was 42 which I only remember them playing for a couple weeks.  They cut off the list at 44, but there were a lot more to pick from in the survey.

Your 2013 Foghead Favorite Songs:

1. Lorde, “Royals”

(b) may work to a certain extent. If they think (a) is gonna work....

It would be hysterical if they spent the rest of the week counting down... 11-20 on Tuesday and so forth through 41-50 (the four we listed plus six SURPRISES) on Friday. It'd be four more days of seeing people write "I'm Outta Here".

I wouldn't mind a real long countdown like many stations do/did (including the now defunct Channel 92.3), but I'd prefer it to be in addition to, not instead of, 10@10, and it ideally should have been on New Years Day.  But it would seem pointless for them to replace the 10@10s this week now that they've posted the list.  If they wanted to do that it would have made more sense to start with 50-41 and end with 10-1.

I know I'm just an old 'get off my lawn' kind of guy, and I didn't listen this morning, but this seems like some kind of theft to me.  Even when they do some unlistenable 90's or 2000's show, at least it's being done in historical 10@10 perspective.  I know there are theme shows now and then, but this just seems so...I don't know.

It's shameless self-promotion, a la the Live/Archives sets or Outside Lands preview sets etc. And I suspect Cumulus upper management wants more "recent" years on 10@10 anyway.

Your 2013 Foghead Favorite Songs:

There are songs on that list that i don't think I've ever heard (#22, Passenger, "Let Her Go" isn't ringing any bells) and one that ISN'T there, despite being played to death on KFOG (indeed, I heard it this morning) is Atlas Genius' "Trojans".

BTW, I tried unsuccessfully to find Live 105's Top Songs of 2013 list. Did they even compile one?

The Passenger song actually has been getting a lot of spins lately, on KFOG and Alice/Mix/Star.  You might recognize it (& find it annoying) if they identify it.  Good observation re: "Trojans" being missing.  Their other single "If So" is missing which was also a KFOG staple.  I also find it a little odd that 1-40, with the exception of Greg Gory's favorite band are generic Triple A fodder, and then all the sudden 41-44 aren't and they cut it off at 44.  Also the list in general skews towards the latter part of the year, although that could just be because people have short term memories.

Live 105 posted a Top 20 list to very little fanfare.  It's even more boring than KFOG's, and some of the songs are from 2010 or 2011.  ::)
