Friday the 13th means it's time for Hits From Hell:

https://soundcloud.com/capnjack-1/195-10-10-hits-from-hell

I'll post the setlist on Friday (in case you want to listen and be kept in suspense by what songs were chosen).  Happy Friday the 13th!

ETA: Here's the setlist...

 3. Ray Stevens - Mr. Businessman

wow, people consider that a HFH??  One of the great lyrics of the late '60s, easily. The other 9 are HFH mainstays but I don't recall Dave ever playing the Stevens as a HFH.
You spin me right 'round, baby, right 'round

It really isn't a HFH, but I threw it in there to see what kind of reaction it would get.  I think Dave has played Stevens as a "turkey" (a medley of his career hits, IIRC).

Originally, this was a radio-themed set which evolved into an Annalisa birthday set that I never finished.
I grew up listening to American Top 40 every weekend, and it certainly had an effect on me.  R.I.P. Casey.

A very sweet set, some of my favorite "radio" songs here. Particularly liked the Sports, and actually all of the first five are big faves, as well as the last three songs, too. And the three that came between them were new to me, but perfectly suited for this, so hat's off.

I know "radio" is a seemingly overdone theme, but there's so much material to be drawn from, I'd think there's enough that you could do several more sets and not repeat a song. "Midnight Radio" from "Hedwig and the Angry Inch" is a particular fave. I have others, but not the time to recall them all right now. More later.
Let's get right to it.

Excellent set. Not sure which I enjoyed more -- the songs or the clips. And I was fine with the country stuff. Loved hearing the Shel Silverstein stuff for the first time in eons. The newer ones I'd never heard before (Ashley, Kasey, Brandy -- sounds like a Cal sorority) were fine in a hot-young-country sorta way. BOS for me was Henry, also the Arlo tune (glad you left the afterbit on that one).

Also. *loved* the various Child's Garden of Grass clips. I had a college class that used that as one of its texts, but don't know if I ever heard the audio version.

This is another theme that could easily stand a revisit, should you get the inspiration. I thought of a couple while I was listening -- Fats Waller's "If You're a Viper" being one and I'm blanking on the others. They'll come back to me, probably while I'm nowhere near the computer or the phone.

Question: How come you're still using the Renee intro/outro clips instead of phasing in Annalisa? Not a huge deal either way, I was just curious.

If you can remember any songs that you'd like to hear in a future 420 set, let me know -- I keep notes. :)

In regards to the intro/outro clips, I've been building up a cache of AL's sets, so I should be transitioning my sets using AL's voice soon -- especially when she giggles!

Inspired by AL's choice of 1991 for Wednesday's set, here's my 3rd visit to 1991:

 1. Marshall Crenshaw - Better Back Off
 2. Shanice - I Love Your Smile (per RGMike)
(Radio dial: Amy Grant - Baby Baby)
 3. Siouxie and the Banshees - Kiss Them For Me
 4. Londonbeat - I've Been Thinking About You (per RGMike)
(Radio dial: Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit)
 5. Huey Lewis and the News - It Hit Me Like A Hammer
 6. Marky Mark & The Funky Bunch - Good Vibrations
 7. R.E.M. - Texarkana
(Radio dial: Bryan Adams - (Everything I Do) I Do It For You)
 8. Mariah Carey - If It's Over
(News: Super Nintendo)
 9. Mary's Danish - These Are All The Shapes Nevada Could Have Been (per Big Fingers McGee)
(Radio dial: Wilson Phillips - Impulsive)
10. Boyz II Men - Motownphilly (per RGMike)

http://soundcloud.com/retrocapnjack/176-10-10-1991

This set was rapidly put together with the idea that 1) AL might not play any of these tracks in her set
(although I think she might play Siouxie) and 2) folks here are generally not happy with a '90s set
due to a lack of variety (which I hope this set has).  Let me know what you think!

 3. Duran Duran - I Don't Want Your Love
 4. Swing Out Sister - Twilight World
(Commercial: Sun Light detergent)
 5. Treat Her Right - I Think She Likes Me
 6. Boy Meets Girl - Waiting For A Star To Fall
(News: Gary Hart)
 7. Bobby Brown - Don't Be Cruel
(TV: 21 Jump Street)
 8. Voice Of The Beehive - I Say Nothing

A late '80s set with a heavy leaning towards pop/top 40 charts with a couple of non-charting nuggets to boot.

Given the lack of enthusiasm for AL's recent visit to 1982, this inspired my 5th visit to that year:

 1. Chicago - Hard To Say I'm Sorry / Get Away
 2. Marvin Gaye - Midnight Lady
(TV: Casey Kasem NBC Saturday night promo)
 3. Bertie Higgins - Key Largo
 4. Peter Gabriel - Kiss Of Life (per urth)
(TV: Nationwide - Paul McCartney on Tug Of War and Wings)
 5. Paul McCartney - I'll Give You A Ring
 6. Daryl Hall and John Oates - Maneater
(Commercial: United Airlines)
 7. Olivia Newton-John - Make A Move On Me
 8. Joe Jackson - T.V. Age
 9. Arrow - Hot Hot Hot
(TV: Police Squad!)
10. Eddie Rabbitt and Crystal Gayle - Just You And I

https://soundcloud.com/capnjack-1/189-10-10-1982

I chose hits/album cuts that I rememeber vividly from that year which haven't made it onto 10@10 (to my knowledge).
Let me know what you think!
