5th visit to 1979 (inspired by AL's recent set):

 1. David Johansen - Melody
 2. Eagles - The Greeks Don't Want No Freaks
(TV: The Pat Boone and Family Christmas Special - Norman Fell and Audra Lindley (aka The Ropers))
 3. Iggy Pop - I'm Bored
 4. Gang Of Four - I Found That Essence Rare
(Commercial: Donny and Marie Osmond for Hawaiian Punch)
 5. Instant Funk - I Got My Mind Made Up (You Can Get It Girl)
 6. Billy Joel - Honesty
(Movie: Apocalypse Now)
 7. Chuck Brown and the Soul Searchers - Bustin' Loose
 8. Tim Curry - I Do The Rock
(News: John Wayne dies)
 9. Roxy Music - Angel Eyes
10. Buzzcocks - Everybody's Happy Nowadays

https://soundcloud.com/capnjack-1/159-10-10-1979

Enjoy!

Damn fine. Several songs I knew I hadn't heard in ages (Eagles, Billy Joel, Roxy, Gang of Four) and a nice helping of r&b that for the most part I did not know. And I can never hear I Do The Rock enough. Two thumbs up.
Let's get right to it.

Inspired for some reason, here's my 3rd visit to 1985:

 1. Ready For The World - Oh Sheila
 2. Utopia - Mated
 3. Kool and the Gang - Fresh
(Inspector Gadget theme)
 4. Doug E. Fresh and the Get Fresh Crew - The Show
 5. DeBarge - Rhythm Of The Night
 6. Eddie Murphy - Party All The Time
(Casey Kasem)
 7. Mary Jane Girls - In My House
 8. Tears For Fears - The Working Hour
(Whitney Houston introduces "You Give Good Love")
 9. Whitney Houston - You Give Good Love
10. Roxanne with U.T.F.O. - The Real Roxanne

https://soundcloud.com/capnjack-1/158-10-10-1985

I suppose this set was created as a preemptive strike in case AL decides not to go the "pop/soul" route that many seem to be longing for.  In any case, enjoy!

This definitely lives up to the "Alternative" in Alternative Takes.

can't wait to hear this.  And (appropriate for "the day of 4 popes") you need to hear this if you never have:

This was spectacular, Cap'n.  Hadn't thought of the Judee Sill song in ages.  Love the BJ Thomas and Glen Campbell tunes. Dorothy Morrison's cover of "SITS" is amazing.

I'd've added Tom Paxton's "Jesus Christ, SRO" but that's probably hard to find.

But methinks that was the Carl Anderson movie sndtk version of "Superstar" and not Murray Head.

Oops, I think I did use the movie soundtrack version.

I should have asked for requests -- should I do a follow-up Easter set?  I do have that Tom Paxton album (Peace Will Come).  If there are any Jesus/God/etc. songs you'd like to hear, let me know.  This set focused mainly on the late '60s-early '70s (save for Johnny Cash).

Dorothy Morrison (who you hear on "Oh Happy Day") turns in a funky performance, no?  It managed to chart in late '70.

Oh, I think that was enuf Jeezus for one year. :)

The only other song I would've added is Eddie Kendricks' "He's a Friend" -- use it in your next '75 outing.
