Great clips, great bumpers, great songs. This def passes the urth test!
Let's get right to it.

At the request of dischead, here's my 10@10 French horn set:

https://soundcloud.com/capnjack-1/135-10-10-french-horn

Feel free to comment away!

That was fun... very interesting.  There was a surprising similarity in the songs' "atmosphere," for
lack of a better term, at least wherever the horn was used.  It's unfortunate that the instrument
is largely used as background; I think it has potential in a leading role.  I note that both Handbags
And Gladrags
and Harpies Bizarre have the trifecta of flute, oboe, and horn.  Elvis wins
the triple crown though, because I think at one point all three are used simultaneously.

Well, if that was so easy, how about pop tuba?
here's hoping Cap'n has a copy of Martin Mull's "Dueling Tubas"....
Frightening that I came up with more than ten songs with tuba.  :o

Yes, it does raise some questions...

Quote
(Radio dial: Mary Hopkin - Those Were The Days)

The one song on my list, although I hadn't given any serious thought to a tuba set.  I will have
to make the effort to d/l and listen.

So you pulled off the French horn? How about the bassoon? Or oboe? Or perhaps all double-reed woodwinds?  Tears of a Clown is a must, but there are lots of others that use one or more of these, so you could really have some fun. A couple of the songs from the above set would qualify here too, but I'd suggest they be disqualified just for diversity's sake.

ETA: I just read thru a few of the other posts commenting on this set and see that dischead also called out for a bassoon/oboe set. I'd call that a groundswell of demand!

Oboe is not terribly difficult to do; I have ten mostly well-known songs on my list.  I also stumbled
across a short list of songs that use bassoon -- they're all songs on the oboe list.  I doubt any of
them use the bassoon as a lead instrument; they provide either accompaniment or counterpoint.

There is some precedent for a 10@10 set focusing on one instrument -- Dave's "Cowbells of Rock"
show from October 29th, 2003.  More generally, he's also done a "brass rock" set.

I *might* have a Pete Seeger tribute set by tomorrow.

In the meantime, dischead suggested something...

...a "Strictly Instrumental" set.  I'll take the first 9 request via PM and I'll generate the set over the weekend.
How does that sound? If you're game, PM me your request(s).

The recent theme sets are a nice change...

Since nobody seems to want to listen to the 2000 set, I've replaced it with the "Strictly Instrumental" set:

 1. Small Faces - Collibosher (per Tinka Cat)
(Movie: High Fidelity)
 2. Crusaders - Put It Where You Want It (per RGMike)
 3. John Mayall (featuring Peter Green) - The Supernatural (per Geoff)
 4. Little Feat - Day At The Dog Races (per dischead)
(Movie: A Hard Day's Night)
 5. The Incredible Bongo Band - Apache (per RGMike)
 6. Eric Burdon & The Animals - We Love You Lil (per Geoff)
 7. Paul McCartney - Squid (per CapnJack)
 8. Paul Winter & The Winter Consort - Icarus (per RGMike)
(Movie: School Of Rock)
 9. Jimi Hendrix - Pali Gap (per Geoff)
10. Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass - Carmen (per CapnJack)

https://soundcloud.com/retrocapnjack/150-10-10-strictly-instrumental

I ended up with two selections since I only received eight requests, and I wanted to get this up before
the weekend so dischead, who requested this set in the first place, could hear it.  Hope you like the
results -- feel free to comment!

YES! and it was one of Dennis Elsas' staples as far as instrumentals to play just before the network news. ("Embryonic Journey" was another one; ditto "Cast Your Fate to the Wind")

Other instrumentals used just before the network news on the hour were Peaches En Regalia,
Apollo 100's Joy, and some of the tracks from Wendy (nee Walter) Carlos' soundtrack
to A Clockwork Orange.  Pick Up in the Morning by the New York Rock & Roll Ensemble
was a popular 6am show opener, as was Mungo Jerry's Have a Whiff On Me.  I can't
remember if it was Mike Harrison or Dave Herman who favored those.

Next stop on the nostalgia train:  Alison "The Nightbird" Steele's favorite tracks for kicking off
her late night slot at 10pm...
