First time I heard this was under the bleachers at Maples Pavillion in '73.
During the first set, the dancing on the floor (with springs) was so hard and rhythmic, the speakers piled high on the PA started dancing!  I was afraid they were going to tumble!

I don't know how old it is, but I never would have thought to have the Dead play there. It's a small basketball venue (as you know), and I'd never heard of any rock concerts being there. When I was at Stanford, the rock shows were at Frost Amphitheatre, which was really nice, especially for the Dead and their ilk (Hot Tuna, notably).

damn!  Great song.

Listening to the replay, this takes me back to that time.  I also flashed on how he changed the lyrics in concert at the end to "Bless my soul, she's got a rock and roll asshole thinkin' 'bout settlin' down!"

I was at that Tuna show--mid-summer, iirc, and blazing hot.

I also remember a Zappa show at Maples in the late 70s or very early 80s. I didn't go--he played Sac Memorial on the same tour, so I saw him there.
